“Best nights sleep on the way home from Naples...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We recommend stopping for a great nights sleep in these extremely comfortable beds at the Marriott Mobile Alabama. We travel back and forth to Naples from Texas periodically and make this Marriott our usual stop and we wanted to let everyone know about the accomadations. The bedroom is the best. Clean and comfy beds to almost match our own at home. We also love the breakfast is delecious! You have crispy bacon, cheesy grits, eggs, pancakes to order, waffles and fresh coffee at at the cafe to order and the consistent friendly staff at the bar and front desk make this a must stop. You cannot go wrong with this overnight stay for a refreshing, inexpensive stay. Use your Triple A discount for an even more reward on an exquisite room. Cannot say enough!

Room Tip: Our rooms were on the 15th floors usually.

“Older, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I'm sure it's not the worst Mobile has to offer, but it's certainly not the best.

I visited recently for business, and it seems some football bowl game was in town and the hotel was taken over with the team. My suggestion to the hotel, if that happens again, put the team on the lowest floors possible. They took up all of the conference rooms, they had breakfast there, but then they'd tie up the elevators going to all different floors. Perhaps if they were close to the conference rooms, or even within walking distance of the stairs they wouldn't tie up the elevators for the remaining guests.

The guest room HVAC had a mind of its own, and the shower head had to be replaced because it leaked all over. Housekeeping was great about keeping towels and soaps well stocked. Big pet peeve is when on day two, three or four of a multi-night stay and the housekeeper skimps on towels or leaves you without soap.

Bed was comfy, but the bathroom was entirely too small. You can tell this hotel came from a design team of another generation. The door would barely clear the toilet, but there was a lot of empty space outside the bathroom in the room. The sink's water was set to freeze or scold, little in between.

They had WiFi, but I suspect they gave every guest a free WiFi access code because the connection was nothing short of terrible...reminded me of dial-up days in Slovakia.

Seems most of the football fans came on the buses so there was plenty of parking. There was a mall across the street, but it seemed occupied by thugs and punks, so I left. There were a series of decent chain restaurants in the neighborhood, and it was a 15-20min drive to the airport. It should have been quicker, as it's only 8 miles, but it's the south and they don't necessarily have a sense of urgency when driving.

I want to thank you for taking the time to write a review. In our industry we are truly dependent on our guests' comments, whether positive or negative, as they are our most useful tool in not only meeting our guests' expectations but, rather, exceeding them.

During your stay, we were host to the GoDaddy.com Bowl which occupies 80% of our hotel during the week of this event. While we do our best to group the players together, the team does take a large portion of our floors. We hope you will accept our apologies for the elevator delays which occurred as a result.

In regards to the property, I am happy to inform you that we are currently in the process of rejuvenating the hotel. We started with our health club, with the installation of $160,000.00 in new Life Fitness equipment. From there, we will be reimaging our lobby and sleeping rooms, followed by our meeting space. We will also be working with a new Internet Service Provider, who will be more than doubling our bandwidth, to provide our guests' with faster wireless service. At the very moment, we have just completed our entryway with new landscaping and are also painting the buildings exterior. We hope that we will have an opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel upon your return to Mobile and have you experience the new property. We will be updating our official Mobile Marriott Facebook page with the status of our transition, to keep our guests well informed throughout the coming months.

“Friendly Staff, but property is tired and needs to be refurbished”

I am a Marriott Platinum member and spend 80+ nights a year on the road, so I am used to varying hotels, but this property will not be on my return list. The room's furnishings were tired, the facility dated and location not desirable enough to overlook the property's condition.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Mobile. As you stated, the hotel seemed tired and in need of updating. Well here is some great news! Starting in the beginning of 2012 we will be updating our property in not only the Lobby and Restaurant but the guest rooms as well. This will most definitely set us apart from all other hotels in the area and once again make us the premier property to stay at while visiting Mobile. We do hope that if your travels take you back to Mobile that you choose the Mobile Marriott once again. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and I will most certainly share your positive feedback with the staff as they take great pride in making every guest feel welcome.
Best Regards,

“Older property, but still a decent stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I stayed a few days in December 2011 and I didn't have any real issues. I did experience a few things that were a bit odd. Check in was quick. I was given a concierge level room with two beds. One of the beds was a spring matress where you could feel the metal frame and the other was a foam matress which was adequate. My main disappointment was that this was not a "Marriott Bed".

The wifi was adequate (Free to Gold and Platinum but otherwise it is $10-15 per night) and they have in room movies. The concierge lounge was quite nice and had a pretty good selection. The Gym was HUGE!!! Must be a big thing, but I rarely saw more than 3 people in there at once.

Had a quick bite in the lounge, but that was a mistake. Service was great, but the food was not. I order a BBQ Chicken Quesidilla. Came out without BBQ sauce, the chicken was dry and burnt in several places, and it just didn't match the menu description other than chicken in quesidilla form. I was told that it was because they were changing over their menus, but either way I suggest you look elsewhere. (Hint: Ruth's Chris is less than 2 miles away!)

It is right off of 65 but airport road has a stop light every block, so getting anywhere is a pain. They have free parking on both sides of the building which you may not notice at check-in. The airport is about 15-20 min drive becuase of the hundred or so stop lights. There are tons of shopping and restaurants in the area, just understand that you are not going to get there very quickly.

The bottom line is that this is about the best you are going to get in the area unless you want to stay downtown Mobile. I would probably stay there again, but I would definately ask for a real Marriott Bed in my room.

Happy Travels!

Room Tip: Lounge level is 5. Top floor is 20 (I think). Elevators are kinda slow.

On behalf of the staff at the Mobile Marriott I would like thank you for staying with us on your recent trip to Mobile. I wanted to share some good news with you and that is we will start upgrading the property in January. Included in this will be the Marriott Mattresses that everyone so much enjoys. There are some exciting things taking place and rest assured that this will be the premier place to stay. I would like to apologize for the experience you had while dining with us. Please know that this issue has been addressed and corrected. As you pointed out, our fitness center is not only HUGE, but it is brand new with state of the art equipment as well. We are thrilled that you enjoyed it. Also in January, we will be upgrading our internet system and more than doubling the bandwidth coming into the building. This should satisfy even the most hi tech traveler. We look forward to seeing you again.

Best Regards,
Donato Pinierio

“Comfortable, clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Hotel staff was consistently as friendly as anywhere in the country. Hotel is clean but a little dated for a Marriott. Location is on a very, very, very heavy traffic road but noise is not an issue. No airport shuttle.
