We decided last minute to drive from Kuala Lumpur to Melaka over the Labour Day weekend, and apparently so did everybody else! The highways were totally jammed and instead of a 3 hour drive it took us almost 6. I had booked the hotel online and after trying all the best hotels (as rated on Tripadvisor) we had to accept that it was full everywhere, so we ended up the in Orkid. Their 3 star rating is fair I think, because it is just a typical old Chinese hotel with all you need for a decent rest between sightseeing and walking around, but it is not by any means fancy or cute. The rooms are ok, in fact we had expected worse from their horrible website! We were given 2 twin rooms instead of double rooms but changing was not an issue, the front desk staff were both helpful and efficient and we soon got the right rooms arranged for us.

We liked the location of this hotel;Jonker street market was only 10-15 min walk so we didn't have to spend money on taxis. The room was not very attractive with grandma floral patterns everywhere but it was clean and quiet. There was a TV with a few channels and a kettle and nescafe. The fridge I only found just before leaving because it was hidden in a cupboard.

We paid USD 100/ room incl booking fee, this was in my opinion overpriced and you can find much better deals than this in Malaysia but on a busy weekend as this one, beggars can't be choosers and it was fine for what it was. When we wanted to keep the room for an extra 4 hours it was not a problem and they only charged us USD 10 extra. I had read bad reviews about the breakfast so I was quite happy our deal did not include any, so we had a nice brunch in a cafe instead!

I didn't make any room reservation for this high season the Chinese New Year holiday and the result is that I was desperate to find a shelter in the evening, with sweats all over . I finally got this hotel for the 2nd night of my stay in Melaka, very satisfied.

Price ok, given it's CNY holiday! Room long and spacious, air con silent and functional. Acceptably clean, there's a big kettle. My room is on 8th floor and have good and open views. There is no lobby actually, only a front desk with 2 staff. The location of the hotel is good, 10 mins walk will reach the actions. There are food stalls and a famous restaurant nearby selling chicken and balls of rice. In the neighbourhood, there are other hotels of high class such as Renaissance, City Bayview, Majestic but their prices are much higher. There are other low class hotels on the same street which are quite awful. This hotel is the only one of medium class.

I appreciate most about the buffet breakfast. There are variety, just like a lunch or at least brunch buffet. Taste good.

The bed is so dirty and I am bitten by bed bugs!!! My body itch all over in the two night stay in melaka. No hair dryer and the room telephone is also faulty!!!

I stayed here on a girls trip to Melaka. We had conjoining rooms. We had trouble with our airconditioning on one night and basically cooked, however the prob was fixed the next day. The bathroom was pretty tired and dark, but the shower worked well. The hotel was a bit of a distance to walk in extreme heat to the centre of town, but we arranged a cyclo and got a lift back.
