I stayed at the Kancil as part of my beginning solo journey in Malaysia. If only all the guesthouses were as welcoming and clean as here!
First of all, the not so good points:
if it a bit far off from the city center. But Melaka being tiny as a pea, it was just about 10 mins walk from the two/three main shopping centers; and 15 mins from the tourist sites.
There are also no sidewalks - I was basically walking on the road with all the passing cars zooming by - so you might want to think about it if you have kids and are walking to the guesthouse.
Now, I loved the neighbourhood it is in though, i.e. you can walk along a primary school, little food stalls, etc.
But most of all, the owner of the place is amazing (quite ashamed I forgot his name!). He told me about nice places to visit in the city, shared his dinner of melaka yummies with me whilst we chatted about our respective trips, and really made the stay as comfy as possible.
The place in itself is clean and very nice. Open air with plants and a well in the middle of the guesthouse - little back garden with chairs to chill at night.
There is also a kitchen with lovely paintings were you can have beverages and basic food (symbolic fee to pay when you take something from the fridge) and two computers with internet access (pay as you use too).
I stayed in a basic single bed room near the entrance - fan. A bit noisy since I was near the main door but even though I'm a light sleeper it didn't bother me much.
Oh and there is a coffee place facing the guesthouse, had traditional coffee and breakfast there in the morning.
Great experience overall.
