My family of three stayed here over a weekend - room was spacious because we got a corner room. Location is ok if you drive - minutes away from most places a tourist will want to go, plus ample free carpark space at the hotel. We walked to Jonker Street on our first night - about 15 mins' walk. Not so bad because you get to soak in the flavour of the city. Some nice eateries around the corner (must try Bulldog Cafe, an old Peranakan food place) plus 24-hour stores too. Hotel is old and dated. Smells and looks like one. But clean, overall, and service is prompt. Food at cafe is surprisingly pretty good. Incredibly Rock bottom deals on Tues and Thurs - laksa, fried rice and satay are must tries. The cafe is not airconditioned and on our first day, the free wifi (only available at the cafe) didn't work. The lobby was packed in the mornings because of busloads of tourists checking out - I understand that the occupancy rate is very high. Perhaps that is because it is a decent budget hotel - no frills, very basic.
