I stayed here with a friend for two weeks in November 2009 - a while ago I know, but after reading some of the rubbish reviews, I wanted to clear a few things up!!
My trip was amazing - we arrived ast a fairly decent time of day, only two other groups staying at the same hotel. We were met with fantastic receptionists and shown to our room. We noticed that the ceiling fan was pretty loose and has flash backs from Final Destination so went and spoke to reception straight away (remembering that this was only a 2* hotel at the time, not getting too peeved!) The staff showed us several rooms, but all had the same problem. We were taken to a room overlooking the second pool and within half an hour and a Kingfisher, they has repaired the ceiling fan and alleviated any concerns.
The staff were incredibly facilitating, so friendly and generous. We cannot fault them in any way. On the fourth night I came out in a rash and went to reception at around midnight. They called the doctor for me first thing in the morning and were so helpful - turned out to be down to the anti-malarial tablets before anyone thinks it was the living conditions!!!!
The man who ran the jewellery shop was such a lovely guy, so friendly, recommended everywhere to go - mosques, sight-seeing trips, markets, etc. He never once asked us to buy anything and was just happy with a chat. If anything, I would recommend going just to talk with him!! Oh and the diamonds he showed us were fantastic - only complaint was that he would let me have free ones!!
There was a lovely old man who rode round on his bike each morning and sold English & Indian papers for 5 rupees - excellent over breakfast!
The first four days we were there, there was a cyclone but not wanting to waste time, we bought lilos from the hotel shop and jumped straight in the pool - even then the waiters were more than happy to bring us our Kingfisher! Even the weather wasn't going to ruin our trip :)
Once the sun came out, we really fell in love - excellent position, directly on the Baga Strip. This was really close to Baga Beach, the famous Anjuna Flea Markets as well as Calangute and loads of restaurants & pubs (our favourite being Lazy Days).
You will I honestly couldn't recommend this hotel enough - visitors just need to appreciate that you get what you pay for. It is only 2* in a really poor country, but this hotel is far better than most in the UK - far better than Travel Inn or any of the rubbish that we pay for here!!
I loved it, and if I wasn't getting married I would be returning to this hotel as often as I could. Just gutted that weddings cost so much!!!
Ignore all of the other reviews - go there for yourself, try it, for £30 a night it has to be worth it :)
Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the back of the hotel looked best although didn't seem to see much sun - t...
