On arrival at airport, taxi provided by hotel was present. We paid Rs 600 (regular faire Rs 700 – which we paid when get got back to the airport).
But on arrival at the hotel, nothing was ready in our room: AC refusing to start, cable TV making some noise, its remote defect and without batteries, no towels, no toilet paper, no bed sheets and pillow covers and, last but not least, the room’s door was not locking.
Upon my instance to the manager, another room was shown to me: larger facing the restaurant across the pool (pool was OK), where everything had been readied for customers arriving on the next day. This room also had mosquito insecticide plugged, unlike ours (we had to purchase it since the employee told me they don’t have this in the hotel).
Eventually, after a couple of hours wasted, everything got fixed.
The room (“Deluxe” with AC – Rs 2,250, taxes and BF included, though the manager tried to bill me Rs 10,000 for 4 nights … maybe a real mistake) was clean, large and comfortable enough for the price in this area, with a correct bed, a table with a chair, a sort of mini-kitchenette with fridge, and the classic Indian bathroom with 24 hours solar heater water – thus depending on the availability of sunlight) and a sitting area/balcony. But the room was also somewhat tired and unmaintained, especially compared to the hotel’s website pictures – SEE MY PICTURES.
The hotel has 11 of these "deluxe" rooms, all clustered in 6 2-storeys bungalows, plus a few “regular rooms” (Rs 1,900 - taxes and BF included) near the reception area.
The staff and the manager/owner were friendly and attentive.
The very basic complimentary BF consisted in a cup of tea/coffee and either 2 sunny side up eggs with 2 toasts, either 3 toasts with butter and jam (another common thing in Goa, at least in that price category).
I ate once at the hotel’s restaurant. Food and ambiance were surprizingly good.
Swimming pool was appropriate: clean and large enough.
Considering the reasonable price and the wonderful location 4 minutes walk from the Calangute beach, though it might not meet all foreign tourists expectations, Maggie’s is a friendly place and isn’t a bad value for money at all, provided you check your bill and make sure that everything is working or gets fixed asap once you reach.
