Last Diwali(2011), i visited Goa with my wife and stayed at the Chalston resort in calangute.First thing: Why did i choose Chalston. Answer: Reviews on trip advisor.
And that's why I am writing this review so that all those who are misguided by the reviews of this resort in trip advisor are aware of the reality.
My review is about the cottages, the restaurant and the staff. I cannot comment on the other rooms available as I didn't stay in them.
I had booked the cottage for a 3N/4D package during Diwali. The entire email conversation with Maria D'Souza was pleasant and the booking was done hassle free. So far first impressions were good.
Then starts the real adventure after I reach the resort.
First thing one notices are the staff sitting behind the reception desk. Their attitude was that I have come there for free accommodation. I ignored that knowing that good hospitality is difficult to find always. Next thing we get to the cottage. The moment we enter, we get a stink which makes us feel that this cottage was not used for days. WE asked to change it but i guess you would know what the answer was: A BIG NO. The cottage we stayed or rather survived was named "LUNA". Then we find the towels kept for us "stinking" too.. well that had to happen cause the towels might be lying there for as long as the cottage was lying unused. Then to the horror we see that these towels aren't washed too. So we promptly ask to get them changed. that happens and we get some decent towels. Next the restaurant in the resort where we went to have lunch served us pretty ordinary standard food. well the price was sure not ordinary... once again, waiters and overall service horrible.
Next, at night when we were to retire, i notice the wooden bed in the room is covered with fungus/molds... now it was difficult for us to sleep there but since we had been in Goa during peak time so it was very difficult for us to get a different hotel hence we had to continue in Chalston. I have posted pics of the fungus/molds (whatever you want to call them)... the second night i was awake the whole night cause there was some animal partying on the roof of the cottage and no matter how many times i went outside (which was pretty dark of course) and tried to shoo it away, it didn't work well... it would have been either a rat or a cat but it sure made it impossible for us to sleep....
Well we finally reached the last day of our trip and now comes the next part of the horrible experience. These guys have a checkout policy of 11 AM. every hour you delay, they charge 100 bucks. now most of the buses/trains (not sure of the flights cause due to rush and pretty late planning we couldn't book flight tickets) leave either in the evening or late night... so question was what to do till then. the "always HATING customers " guys behind the reception desk told us that they had provision to keep our luggage and also had a washroom where we could freshen up. What we finally found was that we had to leave our luggage at the reception area and we had to leave the luggage there trusting these guys... we didn't have an option and so we left.. thankfully our luggage was still there when we came back. Next when we asked for the washroom to freshen up, we were shown a stinky restroom which had a commode and a wash basin... that's all.. the floor was a mess and the wash basin tap wasn't functioning.. this is what they had for freshening up... Anyways, that's all i can type right now...
My advise: please DONT GO to that place if you want to have a great stay in GOA.
Room Tip: Dont take the cottages....
