“Very dssappointed”

First of all, let me say I had to put in a date of stay to be able to leave these notes. We DID NOT stay there in November of this year. Had we stayed it would've been leisure, and it would've been with my husband.

My husband and I booked a room in the Mentone Inn almost two years ago now. We were going up for Thanksgiving, flying in our own plane and were planning on getting there for Thanksgiving Day. Ms. Cynthia told us there would be no cooking that day, but we were welcome to join in her family feast. We were pleasantly delighted with this invitation. I baked two key lime pies to contribute to the feast. We took off, and had some engine trouble. We had to cancel our trip. I called right away, and they said, no problem, they would not even charge one night. Then we got our Visa bill and they had charged us for two nights! We would've accepted the one night, even though it could've been a life ending decision had we decided to try to go to keep from having that. But not two nights. Well, after many conversations of being assured we would get a credit for one night we never did. Supposedly their new accountant would not allow refunds, so they told us we could extend our stay to Dec. 31, 2010.

Many unforseen events happened to our family in that time, and we could not get up there. I called about four months ago and found out that the Inn had been sold, and the new owner and I tried to find a weekend available. She finally said she would e-mail me a voucher and extend it into the spring of 2011, which we agreed upon. Now I have not heard from her about that either. And I have tried for several days to call the 800 number and the 256 area code number and get no answer, no message, nothing.

I don't know how they stay in business and run an Inn with this very poor customer service. And I felt it would behoove other guests to be very cautious about booking a room etc. We are VERY disappointed to say the least, although in reading the reviews over the last year or so it sounds like the place is not too great, so maybe we are better off. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

The incident in question happened in 2008. A gift certificate was issued by the "then" Innkeeper Gloria, with a one year expiration date. Gloria left the Inn in APRIL 2009 and the New General Manager agreed to honor this certificate for the agreed time line of one year. It expired December 2009. It is now December 2010.
The Inn has not been sold...It has been owned by the same LLC for 11 years. We are proud of our B&B, clean rooms, great food, and a cozy, homey atmosphere. We strive for customer satisfaction, and apologize for any trouble you have had.

“We Had a Great Experience:Will Return!!”

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay with the delightful Ms. Cynthia who was a gracious, yet unobtrusive hostess as well as a fine Southern cook. She was extremely helpful with extensive local knowledge. The Inn has much ambiance and is quite comfortable. It is 100 years old, not the Ritz Carleton, so be clear about what you are wanting. Clean enough, comfy bed, plenty of hot water and good plumbing at fair prices. Other guests were friendly as well, so the "vibes" were good, but, then again, that's what we always attract....And eat at The Wildflower when you visit.

“Was VERY Disappointed”

My husband and I were So looking forward to staying at The Mentone Inn. We drove up to meet friends and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at the location and the overall look of the house... from the outside!! We walked into the inn to find a nice fire in the fireplace, looked cozy... until we were lead upstairs to our room, the deer run room. We walked into a dungeon! It was very dark and dingy. That was to cover up the dirt! The room was very worn and tired, dirty stained carpet, old drapes. The shower was just plain nasty with old towels and very old sheets. It is a shame, because this old historical home could be so cool to stay in, but it really needs to be refurbished badly. We have stayed in many B & B's across the Southeast, so were lookng forward to at least a wonderful breakfast. Hoping to be served a 2 or 3 course breakfast. That's the reason we choose B & B's.... much to our dismay, it was a buffet. The spread was decent, but I'll have to admit, we WERE disappointed. This was our first trip to Mentone after living in Alabama for 25 + years. Did not make for a good experience. Truly a shame.

“New Look...New Innkeeper....Better Breakfast...ROCKS”

My wife and I took an spur of the moment trip to Mentone during Memorial Day Weekend 09. We stopped to ask for directions, and was met on the porch of the Mentone Inn by Innkeeper Miss Cynthia. She was very kind and helpful with directions to Desoto Falls.
After talking with her, she invited us in for what she calls a glass of "the house wine of the South" Sweet Tea, and some homemade chocolate cookies. We gladly accepted and were blown away by the Inn. The woodwork alone was amazing. She gave us a tour of the rooms, diningroom and even the kitchen. Everything was clean and there were fresh flowers everywhere. My wife and I talked it over and we decided to stay the night. We stayed in the Blue Room, and were very pleased with the accommodations. Handmade soap in the bathroom was my wife's favorite, I personally liked the chocolate mint on the pillow. After a great nights sleep, we awoke to the smell of bacon frying and coffee brewing. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, casseroles, fresh fruit, homemade biscits and jelly. Miss Cynthia cooked and served the meal and it was most enjoyable. We hated to leave, but, I am sold on Miss Cynthia and the Mentone Inn! We will be back and will be telling our friends about it. We consider it...one of Alabama's jewels.

I stayed at the Mentone Inn this time last year and although it was a pleasant stay, my return this year was so much more enjoyable. I was informed when i booked my room the Inn was under new managment and there was some changes being under gone. When my son and I arriaved we were greeted by Ms Cynthia who is the Inn keeper. She is an amazing women and has always been very friendly with every dealing that I have had with her. The Inn was much more organized and tidy. The feel and smell of the Inn was so homey and our breakfast was wonderful. I would like to have that kind of home cooked meal everyday. I would recommend this Inn to anyone. I actually booked another stay for me and a few girlfriends while i was there. Also thanks to Ms Cynthia I have some gorgeous pictures to return home with of my son and I. She does fabulous work with her photos. Cant wait until our next trip!!
