“Noisy, unresponsive staff-very disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel on our first visit to Birmingham. We travel extensively and expected a nice comfortable hotel. There was a group outside four stories down that despite 5 calls to the desk, remained loud and obnoxious for over 3 hours. This is a new hotel and the windows leaked during the rain all over the desks were the computers were, the pool was full of screaming unaccompanied children, and the staff was largely non responsive. Would not recommend this hotel. Complained again at check out, no reaction at all from the front desk.
On a positive note, I would recommend the restaurant.

“Love to SoHo area!”

My Partner and I stayed at the Aloft Birminghan and we had to change rooms from the condo side to the city side and this added to a Great time. We had dinner in the area and took a night swim in the hotel workout area which was vey nice. Amanda was Simply the Best, but she needed some help with the phones ringing off the hook.
WE WILL RETURN! This was our Birthday weekend and what a great get away from Atlanta! The Soho area is Cool! David-Michael & John

Room Tip: Rooms on the City side facing SoHo & Vulcan Park!

“Nice Hotel in Cute area with nice little shops”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Nice Hotel in Cute area with nice little shops around it... Typical Aloft... not in downtown but I prefer this part of Birmingham. Bliss products in the bathroom... small fridge... very clean and I slept well. Indoor free parking.

“Nice place to stay”

We stayed at Aloft for a family event over the Thanksgiving weekend. We had four generations staying in 3 rooms. Each room was modern and very clean and well appointed. The management fulfilled my request to have all the rooms on the same floor -- actually right next to each other.
We enjoyed the lobby area especially the pool table. Ample parking, but the hotel was not full so that could be a problem during a busy time.

“Tries to be cute and tongue-in-cheek, but fails”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

I stayed at ALOFT in Birmingham for a wedding back in May, sharing a room with my friend and fellow bridesmaid. Since I'm not from Birmingham and was going to specific events associated with the wedding, I can't comment too much on the location, but I will say that it was in walking distance of a drug store, a grocery store, a place to grab lunch, etc. which was nice.

The interior of the hotel is very trendy, as people have noted, but in a cheap, Ikea-looking kind of way. The lobby is sort of industrial, with the reception desk in a circular console. There's a breakfast area over to the side where you can purchase coffee, bagels, etc. in the mornings (their website, I thought, made it sound like these things were complimentary, but they're not).

On to what I think is the most important part: the room. The room is trendy to the point of being ugly. Picture a room from the show "Portlandia" and that's what it is. The beds were comfortable enough and clean, and I appreciated that there were two queen beds. There isn't an actual closet, just some hooks in the sink area on which to hang your stuff. The sink area isn't closed off from the rest of the room, so we had to stare at our clothes and shoes all weekend. Here comes my least favorite part: the toilet/shower is separated from the sink area by a sliding door, which is also a mirror. The track on which our sliding mirror/door was supposed to slide must not have been greased up enough, so it was difficult to move and made a HUGE racket - we agreed just not to "close" the bathroom door if we got up in the middle of the night. Also, sliding a mirror isn't exactly the same as closing a door, so I didn't feel like there was a lot of privacy in the bathroom. Neither of us could figure out how to use the room phone, so when it rang we couldn't answer it, not could we call down to the front desk for anything, which, honestly was just as well. Apparently, the front desk says "Aloha!" as a greeting when you call down there, which I just think is stupid.

All in all, it was fine. Clean room, comfortable bed. For the reasons I mention above however, I did not feel that it was worth $180 and I would not stay there again, nor would I recommend it to others.
