“Ditto on the 10/05/10 review”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

I stayed at this hotel several years ago while visiting my elderly mother at a nearby assisted living facility, and found it adequate, but not as updated as other properties I stayed at while working as a sales rep. Now retired with lots of priority club points, I decided to use them instead of staying with relatives. I checked in with just enough time to freshen up before joining my mother for dinner at her place. I could not believe the room - shabby, with peeling furniture, a drawer pull missing from the dresser, dirty carpet, very loud exhaust fan in the bathroom (that had a hair in the tub). The bathroom door could not open all the way due to hitting the toilet. The towels were worn, the lighting too bad to do makeup. I stopped by the front desk to complain and they agreed to change my room when I returned. When I returned I was given a new room and it was only a slight improvement, but after a closer look at the lobby and hallway (clearly dirty carpet, including lots of debris) I realized the entire place was on a downhill slide. In retrospect, I should have demanded a room at the new addition. I stayed two more very uncomfortable nights and left. No one from the hotel ever attempted to see if I was happy with the room change, or with any sort of apology. The location and lack of negative reviews probably account for lots of traffic, leaving management not motivated to spend any money to upgrade or fix any problems. But there is no excuse for bad housekeeping.
I will never return.

“If you stay here, ask for the new section. They 'may' be better.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

We booked this hotel because we had never been to Fairhope before & it was the recommended hotel for the event we were attending.
The staff was fine & they used their shuttle to take groups between event venues, but we were in the older section and the rooms were pretty worn. After the first night in the very hard bed I asked if they were all the same & was told that in the old section they were, but in the newer section they might be better, however there were no available rooms in the new section.
After 1 night in that bed my back pain was so bad that each little inconvenience in the worn-out room was a major deal.
+The top drawer under the TV didn't close without an extra hard push [ouch] & if it didn't close it came back out so you ran into it when you turned around [ouch].
+The toilet didn't flush unless you held the handle down, in a bent over position,
until it was finished [ouch]
+The bathroom faucet leaked all over the counter, so you had to mop it up unless you wanted everything wet [ouch].
+The refer was noisy - which didn't help when you could not sleep in the bed anyway. I even considered sleeping in the car, but it was a rental & I wasn't sure how the seats operated.
+The ice machine on our floor was broken, so it was either up or down for ice.
+They were behind with laundry, so when the room was cleaned on our second day [of a 3 night stay] we had only 2 hand towels. When we came back later in the day, there was a plastic bag outside our door [and many others] containing 2 face cloths & 2 bath towels. We had to tear open the bags & put them away ourselves.

As a Priority Club member I would have expected to get the new section & I will never stay here again unless they can guarantee they I will.

“Paid but never stayed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2009

Due to a mistake in location of reservations, I evidently made reservations in Foley instead of Fairhope-Point Clear. When we arrived at the Point Clear location, I was told that I did not have a reservation there (even though my friends did, in which I gave them the telphone number for). The desk clerk said that she would call the other HI to see if I had made reservations there. Well evidently she did not. call, I know this was not her reposnsibility but she is the one who offered to make the call. So when I returned home and saw the billing on my credit card for the Foley location, I called 1-800-Holiday and told them what had happened. The GM Alka Patel called be back to tell me since I was a no show and I did not have a cancellation number she could not give me a credit. There is nothing she could do. She did offer me a room at no charge for a future stay. Only problem with that is that I do not travel to Foley, never have and probably never will!! We go to Fairhope once a year to an event called "Angel Ride" a fund raiser for children with special needs. This was an honest mistake, I did stay at a Holiday Inn, just not hers. The facilities may be great - I would not know since I was never there. However; hope that you never make a mistake, because Alka Patel is not a very pleasant person to deal with. When I called back to ask for the owners name in order to write him/her a letter, Ms patel refused to give it to me.

“Clean and functional but characterless”

We stayed here for a couple of days on a deep south trip as Fairhope was recommended as an interesting place to visit (it was). There are very few hotels to chose from in the city and the Holiday Inn is on the outskirts. It was clean and the staff were friendly but it is in a very quiet area and in the evening there is absolutely nothing to do, the hotel was like a morgue. It was not that cheap so we did not feel it was good value compared to other places we stayed.
If you are a business person and just want a bed for the night it is ok but not for leisure.

Came out for my daughter's wedding, we booked a block of rooms and rented the Heritage room. Staff was very accommodating and friendly, the breakfast was wonderful and overall it was an excellent experience! Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
