“I Felt Threatened - Avoid At All Costs!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2009

The room was fine, the front desk was reasonably friendly. The problem came at breakfast. There was no fruit, so I was going to have cereal, and the milk was sour, so I tried the boiled eggs--like rubber. Sigh. I tried a biscuit just to get something in my tummy.

The kicker came when I was leaving when the breakfast attendant called me back and told CLEAN OFF MY TABLE. I was so shocked, I didn't know what to say. She sure did. She told me where the trash can was. I just sort of laughed and started to pick up my dishes and then she scolded me for wasting food!! (The cereal with SOUR milk, the rubber eggs, the hard biscuit) That was it--I put it down and said, "this is crazy...this is a hotel .." and she said that she did not clean up after the guests.

I know the manager knows about this because another employee was trying to stop me from leaving as she went into the office. Was she getting the manager? Calling the cops on me for not cleaning off my table? I didn't stick around to find out. I have heard nothing from the management of the "hotel". I have notified the corporate guest relations representative who told me she had not heard such a story in 11 years with the company.

The MOST appalling experience that I have ever had as a traveler and I travel for business about 100 days a year. Unbelievable.

“Trash”

I have never seen a hotel so ghetto in my life. Not only was the rooms standard, smelly and outdated, there was no I was awaken in the mornig with noise and to my surprise it was the housekeepers outside cursing and hollering. There were numerous rootms with the doors opened for the entire time I was there, This is a terrible question of security and management skills. As if this my room was not cleaned after calling the housekeeper and front desk over 7 times, And, if that was not bad enough the same housekeepers did not clean the rooms supposedly found some drug sent in the room across the hall from my room and thought that it was coming from both rooms. Of course, the police entered serached and apologized for the inconvience. All of this drama was because of the lazzines of the employess in this GHETTO HOTEL.

“Incredibly Rude Employees and Manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2008

Unaware that the hotel did not allow pets, my wife and I brought my mother-in-law's dog with us when we checked into the hotel. The 3.5 pound Maltese was left crated while we showered and got ready for a Christmas celebration. The reason we had the dog was because my Mother-in-Law's house was being exterminated at the time. No attempt was made to hide the animal, we brought it through the lobby in its crate with our luggage. About an hour into our stay I removed the animal from its crate and took it outside to relieve itself. It was leashed and the Guest Services Representative saw me with the dog and said no pets. I explained that it wasn't our dog and that we would remove it immediately. She said "too late, I'm going to "fine" you a $100.00 for bringing a dog into the hotel. " After a twenty minute exchange she threatened to call the police and have me and the dog removed. I asked to be checked out and the front desk clerk did so. We were not charged for the room but the "fine" was billed to our credit card.

Because we don't have a pet it never crossed our mind to check on the hotel accepting pets. It was a unique situation that the animal was with us in the first place. This one employee was rude and threatening and when I asked to speak with the owner she refused to give me any contact information. I have now made 8 calls to the General Manager Katerria Johnson and have not had a return call to date. I will dispute this charge with my credit card company but also will pursue this with the corporate office. I checked into the Best Western Suites across the street from this hotel and spent 5 nights. It was a much nicer and cleaner hotel. This young women's rude behavior and customer no-service resulted in them billing me a $100.00 fine and losing 5 nights of hotel stay which totaled $569.55. Additionally, I have instructed my five employees not to use Holiday Inn Express until this matter is resolved.

As guests they advertise it is "smarter" for staying at Holiday Inn Express but that's not the same for the employees or management team of this facility.

“Wonderful Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2005

This hotel can beat some of the best hotels I have stayed at around the country. The room was large, very clean with a refrigerator and free internet access. I didn't need to use my laptop since they have an upscale business area that I was able to use to pull down my emails. The bathroom was large with a coffee maker, hair dryer and large shower and large heavyweight towels.

Demopolis is a small town and this hotel is located on Hwy 80. Just drive up or down the highway to find a restaurant. Some are fast food, some southern fare.

The staff were wonderful and couldn't be more helpful. Everyone, and I mean everyone we talked to when we checked in and the next day when we checked out were so very nice and helpful. The breakfast was great with a lot of items to choose from including omelets and bacon! Make sure you visit Gaineswood Mansion and Bluff Hall, two Antebellum Homes worth touring. I would have stayed an extra day if I could once I reached Demopolis, it is a great town. I would stay again at the Holiday Inn Express!

The Holiday Inn Express in Demopolis, Alabama is a great place to stay.
Our room was very clean, the area is safe and secure, and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel is almost brand new and its furnishings show it! We'll stay here again.
