My family tends to use Country Inn and Suites when we travel, we always find them rather new, extremely clean and "fresh", spacious and with good breakfasts.
This time was different. When we checked in to the hotel, I couldn't help but noticed the place seemed deserted. Hardly any cars in the lot, no people around. We checked in just fine and walked to our room on the other end of the hotel (the place is enormous). The halls were damp and musty, it smelled of "old hotel". I was surprised.
Our room was very large, which was good. We had a room with a pull out couch and then a separate bedroom. The room was musty too. It was very dated, not like some of the other CIS I've been to. It looks as though they are trying to renovate a bit with bedspreads and curtains, but that doesn't take away the mold in the shower, the old and falling apart bathroom fixtures, the uncomfortable feeling we couldn't shake.
But we slept ok, minus the few trains that came by (the hotel is right on a train track). Breakfast was rather unappetizing.
In the morning, we found that our car had been vandalized in the parking lot right outside the hotel. Someone tried to break in the driver's side. and the frame around the window was pulled out and the car completely scratched up. After we realized what had happened, we called the manager who was not available. I left her a message telling what had happened in their parking lot, just to let her know to be vigilant. I gave her my phone number but never heard anything back. I filled out their online review that they emailed me later in the week, and I told of the incident there. THe manager finally emailed me back apologizing for the place not being up to my expectations. Oh well....I don't know many people who expect their car to be vandalized.
On our way home from vacation, we stayed at Embassy Suites ...a much better choice all around.
