I went to Recife Monte to spend one night before flying to Fernando de Noronha on the next day. I can't tell how nasty this hotel is. It doesn't deserve ONE star. I can list the horror show:
- the bed is actually 2 single beds put together and the sheets are smaller than the mattresses
- every snack I had from the minibar was at least 3 months after the due date - nasty
- the water sink drain was not working and brushing my teeth took forever
- the shower sink drain was not working EITHER!!!!!!!
- during breakfast we couldn't find clean cups or dishes. I mean, the were supposed to be clean, but they all had something nasty stuck on it
- our room didn't have a key, they told us they had lot or something like that, so after we went out to eat something we had to call room service and wait for the hotel maid to open our room!!!!
After coming back from Fernando de Noronha, we still had 3 nights at Recife Monte, but right when we got at the airport we told the travel agent there was NO WAY we would sleep there again. After about an hour of talking we were moved to a very nice hotel Recife Palace, which can't be compared to Recife Monte. Anyway, the day we were leaving to come back home, the travel agent who was at the shuttle bus told us: "you are crazy to even sleep one night at Recife Monte, that hotel is nasty and we know that there are even stealers there"!! I think that says it all!!
The worst thing is that the travel agencies know and still sell the packages to Recife Monte as if it were a 4-star hotel!!!!!! Our agency was CVC, just in case you want to be careful!!!

It is announced as a 4 stars hotel. Maybe it was the year it was inaugurated! Yes it has a huge swimming pool with a bar, the room has seen better times for sure.
The location is great anyway. Two short blocks from the Plaza de Boa Viagem, full of buses, supermarket, drugstores and Tourist Information Desk.. One block from the Boa Viagem Avenue, and the beach. And the breakfast was very well served.
The staff was not very kind at all.

I laughed out loud when reading the other reviews because our experience was exactly the same - horrible and disgusting. Because our flight arrived late at night, we just needed a place to sleep until continuing on to our real honeymoon resort. Based on the web site of this "4-star" hotel, the price seemed good for just one night. Boy were we wrong. As soon as we got off the elevator on our floor, I could hardly breathe because of how muggy the air was. And no different inside our room until about an hour after the AC was on. I learned to hold my breathe between the room and the elevator.

Like someone else said, the bathroom was just plain gross. We actually felt more dirty coming out of the shower than going in. Everything from the floor to the shower knobs to the door was slimy. Didn't want to touch anything. But the funniest part is the ceiling. It's not solid, it's a grate with no separation to the neighboring restroom. We could hear the guy next door singing in the shower (and everything else) as if he were in our restroom.

Don't believe the photos on their site. They must have been taken twenty years ago when it was new. Now everything is rusted or has fungus growing on it. See my photo and compare it to the photo on their site on the page titled "O Hotel."

The continental breakfast wasn't bad. But we spent our entire morning walking around looking for another hotel to spend one night in before our departure flight five days later. We found the Recife Parkhotel just a few blocks away which is more what we were expecting, just a descent place. The minimal price increase was well worth getting out of the nightmare of the Recife Monte Hotel.

I stayed here a few years back with about 20 people in my group, the room I got was great, nice view of the pool, the breakfast was great, no problems with the room, but I noticed that the others in my group were not so lucky. Just know that when you are booking this place, it is no four star hotel. If you get a great deal, then it's no problem as it is in a convenient location.
