I stayed here in January for 3 nights and would highly recommend it. I stayed with a friend in a twin room and we paid €30 per night between us. I plan on returning to Kolkata later in the year and will very happily stay here again.
Good points:
- Hotel is very very clean and well kept (not always a given in India). Room was very clean, beds were really comfortable.
- When we asked for extra blankets we were given them right away with no quibble.
- Staff were fantastic and really helpful. The porter on the front door helped us with haggling with taxi drivers, lifting bags, getting directions etc. He was brilliant.
- Breakfast was included and there were plenty of options. We had very nicely cooked eggs with toast, cornflakes with milk and really good coffee. Indian options also available.
- We left very early on our last morning to catch a train and the staff were great, they brought us breakfast at 5.30am and then helped us get a taxi with no complaints.
- Both check-in and check-out were smooth, easy processes. No problems with the bill at the end.
- Room had a "minibar" which had no alcohol - that's a first for me. Was useful if you were stuck for a bottle of water late at night and was not very expensive.
- Hot water available 24/7 by means of a geyser.
- Bathroom well stocked with shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, clean towels, toilet paper (it was a western style toilet, hooray).
- Location was excellent - right at the end of Park Street off a roundabout (Park Circus). Was very easy to travel to and from tourist sights such as Victoria Memorial (walking distance if you have a bit of energy), New Market, Mother Teresa house etc.
- Taxi rank right outside the hotel door so easy to get a cab at any time.
Bad points:
- Slight bit of road noise though not difficult to sleep through (and I am a light sleeper). I suspect road noise would be very hard to avoid anywhere in Kolkata as there is traffic everywhere.
- Can't think of anything else bad about the place!
