We stayed here in early January 2012. Two friends and I traveled to Calcutta for the sole purpose of going to Mother Teresa's House and orphanage (which if you are going to Calcutta you must not miss--these are the most delightful and holy women!). We wanted to stay somewhere out of the craziness of the city that would give us a good feel for what India was like (this was our first visit to India). This hotel was just the ticket! We truly felt like we were in India from the entry way, to the grounds to the rooms. The rooms were very clean and the showers were HUGE and very clean. Ther service was surperb and the food was good. It was such a charming place. The price is very, very reasonable for what you get. The only draw back was the location. This is the reason I can not give it 5 stars. It took us almost two hours to get from the Mother House in Calcutta to the hotel. It is not all that far but the roads in Calcutta are like nothing you can imagine! Pot holes and unpaved on many stretches which makes for a very bumpy-crazy ride. Plus, the traffic is grueling. There are thousands of people on every corner and cows walking around...therefore you simply can not travel more than 20 or 30 mph. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, and you really want to see a lot of Calcutta...then by all means stay here. We did not mind the ride because we were able to see so many sites that otherwise we would not have but for some, this may be too long of a commute to get back into Calcutta. One plus though is that it was only about 35 minutes from the international airport! Great place to stay. I would go back in a heartbeat and I'm a picky traveler who has seem many countries around the world!
