Located on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass (EM Bypass) the Sonar is the choice for business travellers to the City of Joy.
The EM Bypass, incidentally will soon be the happening place in Calcutta with several top class hotels coming up virtually next door to the Sonar.
The Sonar is a very comfortable hotel with large rooms and bathrooms. It is efficient, orderly and businesslike. It's NOT the hotel if you are looking for the old world charm associated with the city. For that you need to go to another hotel.
The hotel as it stands has only five floors and feels almost resort like with water bodies running throughout the property. A tower is being added within the campus which should be ready in a couple of years.
Food is great, with a great breakfast spread. The breads are particularly exceptional and the croissants are delightful. The restaurants are all " stand alone" standard, something we don't always find in 5 Star hotels.
Service is friendly and courteous.
There is a rather nice mall (Mani Square) ten minutes drive from the hotel(taxis are easily available) which has a very nice food court, shops and multiplex cinema. So....you needn't hang around the hotel all the time!
