I was torn between three stars and four. Good location (close to Sudder Street, but also far enough to feel a little less touristy), very clean rooms, plenty of hot water, decent price, decent blankets/linens. As others have said, the staff seems entirely indifferent and speaks very little English, so don't go there expecting them to suggest itineraries or set up tours or whatever. It seems very noisy from street noise during the day, but that drops off almost entirely after 11pm, so sleeping is ok. The fact that the rooms are small is compensated for by the common areas, where you can hang out if you like.
I skipped breakfast, which seemed to mean just bread and Nescafe on the roof, and went to the very close-by Cafe Coffee Day. Overall it was fine. And yes, the creaky old elevator is fun the first time.
