i stayed in this hotel for 4 days in dec 2011 end and my overall experience was 7/10. good nice homely atmosphere. within budget, excellent location. did not try the food but over all exp was good. would want to go back when in cal.

recently stayed in this hotel.... and everything written on the website is misguiding... 1st and foremost there is no in house restaurant... if you order anything you have to pay 30% extra as a service charge... for breakfast it seems they buy it from the roadside and give it to the guest.... horrible and over priced....! so a BIG NO... if u need any further query u may mail me at futurexzone@yahoo.com

The hotel is a little hard to find, in an alley off Elgin Road. For a low price, the value is good: clean , brightly painted room, reasonably quiet and safe. The bathroom is hardly luxurious but it works. Simple breakfast.
The metro is a 10 minute walk (from the hotel left on Elgin Road, then right on Chowringhee). You'll need it, as there's little in terms of restaurants nearby. I ended up one night having a sandwich at Subways, which I generally loathe and despise. With the metro, it takes only a short time to the centre. The Queen Victoria Gardens are within walking distance, though with the traffic it's no fun walk.
So if you're on a tight budget, here's a hotel that has the basics right. Just expect no more than the basics.

I was in Calcutta again during December. The Super Deluxe room was too big for 1 person last time around, so I decided to go with the Economy room. Was easier on the wallet without "cramping" my style (the room was adequately sized for 2 people).

The bed sheets weren't sparkling white but once again, the room was clean. Did not order from the menu as the hotel does not have a kitchen. They basically bring your food from nearby eateries and deliver it to your room. Instead I got my food from outside and asked the staff to drop off plates, silverware.

Unlike last time, I did not have any issues locating the place.

Only had 1 issue during my stay. I had misplaced my reservation print out and the person at the check-in counter (at that time) was technologically challenged and could not get the computer to print out my reservation from the web. I was shown an internet cafe 5 mins away from where I was able to get my print out.
