“Great location but Not value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The hotel is centrally located at business place , offers good convenience. The price is high compared to similar hotels around . The rooms are small . Service at room or restraunt is slow. Morning breakfast is complimentry and good, but the place is congested to eat. In general ok.. But not a great place to stay.

“Good for the overnight business traveler. Little else.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The Senator is one of the many new hotels that have sprung up in Calcutta of late. It is a slim building of medium height with glass facades that make it look like an office more than a hotel. And that is obvious inside as well. If you are not comfortable in cramped spaces, this is surely not for you.

The lobby is ridiculously small and if a couple of families are waiting for a room with their luggage, it becomes difficult for people to navigate. Having said that the hotel is well-run and is very, very clean. The rooms are nicely done up with a mini bar (decently stocked) and the bed was comfortable. Again the washrooms were on the smaller side, but again clean. Toiletries were provided and the towels changed daily. The view from the windows is not really to die for. It overlooks Camac Street and you will pretty much get to see traffic all day. The windows are sealed shut and that poses a problem if you need fresh air.

We ordered room service and the food was more than decent. Though to be fair, there are a million options to eat with the famed Park Street eateries at a short 10 min walk. The staff was friendly, helpful and will often go out of their way to help guests.

All of this make The Senator perfect for the business traveller who needs a comfortable room in the heart of the city. A place that is well-run and service that more than makes up for the lack of room. Leisure travelers and those with kids can well skip this one.

Room Tip: Choose a room that doesn't overlook the street. And preferably stay further away from the elevat...

“Nice and convenient for heart of Kolkata”

I have now stayed here twice for 5 nights each. Rooms are modern and clean. In room Bar facility is good. They have a very good restaurant in second floor serving oriental dishes. Reception is well manned and business man like. This hotel is used mostly by corporate and business people but for a couple and short stay in heart of Kolkata is ideal. Newmarket, Park street and famous floreys patteseri are walking distance. It's not Posh but good 3 star +.

Room Tip: Try rooms above 5th Floor, less noise.

“Spacious Rooms for that Space You Need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I checked into the Senator on Camac Road on a cold night but the welcome was warm enough to make me right a good review. The systems are old, you have to fill a large register like a local lodge but that was the last comparison that I could make of this hotel with a lodge. The room opened with the conventional key was large and clean. There is mini bar but no coffee/tea maker. The spaciousness of the room which is so common in old hotels, took me by surprise. Plenty of personal space. AC was silent and good sleep assured. The restroom is small but with a large mirror stocked with paste brush etc. The water supply was slow but it was ok. The food at the restaurant was good. But the complimentary breakfast options are limited. Due to road construction happening, it takes around 80 mins to reach airport during the day. So please plan your exit accordingly.
Pros- Spacious rooms, clean, good sleep confirmed. Outside the hotel there are some good eateries and bars. The property is well located with good access to public transport.
Cons- No Coffee/Tea maker, Found the general fire safety weak as the exit stairs at some floors were blocked with paint cans and wooden chairs, no 24 Hrs check out, No mention of internet, Hot water is supplied only during certain hours is what I think after having read a notice of the same in the restroom.
And last but not the least; Senator was the only hotel till date I have seen which has a clock in the room. Overall good experience.

“Excellently located business hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

The hotel is located close to the "happening" locations of Park Street. The rooms are clean and maintained. The room had an LCD and decently stocked minibar. Kettle with complimentary tea / coffee sachets were provided. Cable internet connection was offered, but the port in my room did not work. The coffee shop on the ground floor serves complimentary breakfast. The main restaurant and bar is on the first floor. The non-veg platter was fantastic. Overall a good hotel for a short business stay.
