I have stayed at this property several times over the past few years and finaly thought would put a few lines on the hotel.
Gather that this is the oldest Marriott courtyard in the country but thankfully, that is not reflected in the overall upkeep of the place. The moment one enters, one is greeted into a cheerful lobby and the adjoining Paprika Coffee Shop. Check in was fast and efficient and the overall service is lighting fast. Be it asking for additional bottles of water or room cleaning; everything is taken care of so efficiently. And for a business hotel right on Mount Road (Anna Salai)running upto full capacity most of the times, they must be doing something right.
We stayed in a standard room this time although I have also stayed in the Club Room on the higher floor. Rooms again are cheerful and efficient although the washroom could do with more amenities, starting with a shower cubicle. Nowadays, most business and leisure hotels have a glass shower cubicle and uite surprisingly, neither the standard room nor the club rooms here have one. It does feel odd having to shower in the bath tub! And the amenities too could do with a makeover. Another negative for some could be the absence of a swimming pool; though it didn’t affect me. Being right on Mount Road (Anna Salai), the location meant one is centrally located in Chennai. But that also means the noise and traffic that we have to face the moment we leave the hotel (no where to walk around after a heavy dinner) and in some cases, the noise does percolate to the rooms as well.
These are the only sore points in what is otherwise a fantastic place. And the reason it is so fantastic is because of the amazing food! The localites tell me that Marriott Courtyard Chennai has always had the best Sunday brunch in town and I got a taste of it this time. The food was superlative to say the least! And what a spread! Right from the Oriental and Continental dishes to the Indian sections, not to mention the numerous LIVE counters serving everything from chaat items to coconut water to Chinese and Indian appetizers! The restaurant is uniformly good even otherwise and we also had Italian food at the speciality ‘Rhapsody’ restuaruant which was again excellent. Not to say, the morning buffet breakfast again is a treat to have.
All in all, a cheerful business hotel with old world rooms but great central location in the city and great food that makes up for a nice experience overall.
Room Tip: Ask for the rooms away from the front side; they might not have good views since there a few slums b...
