“Wonderful experience - highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I highly recommend this place! We heard about Garden Villa Homestay through our friends who stayed here a few years ago. I had never used Trip Advisor before, so knowing our friends gave a glowing personal recommendation, we booked with Capt. Singh.

Not only did he provide a wonderful place to stay during our time in Jaipur and also give recommendations on places to eat and visit in the city, but he arranged ALL of our travel during our time in the Golden Triangle - starting with a taxi pick-up from the Delhi airport to his homestay, taxi during our time in Jaipur (and drink reservations for the 7-star hotel on New Years Eve), taxi to Agra (and Taj) and taxi back to Delhi.

My husband and I stayed in a double-room, which gave us plenty of space, our own bathroom and a personal balcony. Our room was serviced every day and clean. We took advantage of ordering room service a few times (for snacks, cokes and coffee - and also an Indian meal one night for dinner). The staff was friendly and our continental breakfast each morning was great.

You can tell Capt. Singh loves hosting travelers and takes pride in his service. He and his staff are always available to make sure your needs are met and help you enjoy your time in Jaipur! As in all cultures, there can be language barriers, so I was direct in asking for taxi arrangment prior to our arrival and outlining all of our needs and details.

During your time in Jaipur, I would recommend seeing the Amber Fort (if you go early, you can ride an elephant up for around $10). The monkey temple was a fun experience but just be careful of people wanting to take you up the mountain outside of the actual area. We stayed in Jaipur three days, which I felt was plenty of time to see everything (our first day was our first day in India so we needed a day to catch up on the time-change).

“Fine but ended on a bad note”

My friends and I stayed here after reading all the positive reviews.

We had a pleasant stay overall - food was good, staff was helpful, and rooms were clean. However, we ended our stay on a negative note which is the reason for the "Average" rating.

Our train to Jaipur arrived at 6am. This early arrival time was conveyed to the owners 4 times prior to our arrival and a final total amount for our stay was quoted and paid upon arrival. The captain even arranged for transportation from the train station to the B&B ( one rickshaw for four adults with luggage - a little odd but it was fine for us).

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and shown to our rooms. After breakfast however, we were asked if we could pay" something additional" because of our early check-in. This additional fee took us by surprise as our 6am arrival time was conveyed clearly from the beginning and we were already quoted what the rate would be. Why then was the Captain asking us to pay additional now?

He tried to get us to pay and addition one-half of one night's stay per couple. We argued that if he had a set rate for an early arrival, we should have been made aware of it prior to our arrival, not for it to be sprung on us unexpectedly.

There was some back and forth and ultimately we did not pay the new additional fee but the experience left us with a sour taste in our mouth. We would not go back.

“Dosent feel like Homestay”

While I had read great reviews of this place on TA, this place was a slight disappointment when we got there. We reached in the morning and asked the manager with some help for the Itinerary. He doesent seemed much willing to help except for booking a hotel table for dinner at 10.00 in the morning. He mentioned all the places in Jaipur, which we relized he was not really wanting to help. On asking of the hot air balloon ride, he first said it happens in ranthambore and he didnt know if it happens in Jaipur, and then conviniently took out a brochure from his desk which clearly mentions the trip. The rooms were good and clean. They had a fascination of keeping the room keys with them, Every time it looked like we were leaving we were told please handover the keys which became a problem when we came back in the night when there was no one to be found and it took us 10 minutes to get the key. The breakfast was limited and not worth the Rs. 250 per person. Even during checkout, the manager forced an envelope to us saying tips for the staff . Felt more like a hotel than a homestay.

We go out of our way to assist all our guests, to plan their tours while in Jaipur, we also provide them with copy of Jaipur Map. We assist in engaging taxi or auto rickshaw if required. Inspite of our earnest efforts there are few whose expectations are limitless!!. We wish to comment that we are B & B / Homestay and not regular "Travel Agents".

Regarding the Room Keys, its a common practice in the Hospitality Industry, that the guests deposit the Room Keys at the reception, prior to leaving the premises. We have lost Room Keys many times, guests erroneously taking them after check out, as also during the stay. Due to this reason our staff advises them to leave the keys when they go out. Fail to understand why this should be an issue.

“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This is a great place to stay. Breakfast is not included - but i would pay to eat breakfast there.
One thing I didn't like is that if you have a driver, you need to or the travel company has to arrange for their accomodation - Girisadan does not have facilities to accomodate drivers. We were not aware of this and the driver had to sleep in the car. They won't even allow the driver to use the restroom. They should have some facilities for them. This type of discrimination is terrible in this day and age.
Tourists who come to stay in Girisadan come with a driver. This was just ridiculous.

“"As Good as it Gets"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This was our second visit to Girisadan in one year. The first one - last February was cozy twosome getaway, and this was en-family. The Captain and his wife were as gracious as ever, and accommodated us no end. We made at least two changes in our schedule in days leading upto the visit, and each time the very courteous Captain handled our request graciously and with patience.

The place itself is beautiful, with rooms and toilets which have been painstakingly decorated, every tiny thing tastefully and thoughtfully matched. Its a place you feel at home, and simultaneously wishing you had the time and taste to do your home the same way. This, no doubt, was the touch of the Captain's wife. I guess she is very much the driving force behind the place.

I must also mention that in our two nights, we had two medical emergencies in the middle of the night. The Captain and his wife, and later his son, all joined in to help, and showed real concern. We were extremely grateful to the help and warmth of the entire family.

I guess if we ever go back to Jaipur, thats where we would stay again, no question.
