“Basic but clean. Great location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

We stayed 2 nights in an ensuite with 2 single beds (we pushed them together).

- 5-10 mins walk from central attractions (Ann Frank's house, red light district etc)
- 50 mins walk from the Van Gogh and Bols museums (or you can get the tram)
- Comfortable bed
- Nice big window
- Powerful shower
- Rickety shower door
- Rough towels with the odd hole
- No tea / coffee in the room
- A bit noisy (we were in a front room above the street)
- Ok breakfast of cornflakes and toast (didn't try the boiled eggs, sliced cheese or meat)
- Helpful and friendly staff
- Free internet in the lobby

We payed the equivalent of £95 per night for the room + breakfast. You get more for your money in the UK (I'd rate Travel Lodge type places above this one), but I get the impression that this place is good value in Amsterdam.

Overall the Tourist Inn was fine for our purposes but if our stay had been longer I would want to stay somewhere better.

“IGNOR other reviews! This place is great”

Very very basic. But in a clean and professional way.

We booked online and there was no problem with our checkin. They take most cards and they are willing to allow groups to pay separately. Very simple, relaxed checkin.

Our room was spotlessly clean. The showers were clean and relatively newly built.

The place itself has very little atmosphere, so if you want to meet people, this would probably not be the best place to come too. The people are mostly young and in Amsterdam to party. The rooms are small (no big noisy dorms). There are even hairdryers in the shower rooms! Very handy!

I would recommend this place if you looking for a clean, central bed.

I think the people who wrote bad reviews on this hotel went here before it underwent the change of management. These people run a tight ship!

They supply clean sheets, fluffy duvet and clean (small towels). Free.

“Value for money! Does what it says on the tin!”

We paid only £30 each a night and had a dorm room with 6 beds.
It was clean and the showers and toilets where ample.
We had read the bad reviews and thought about cancelling, but we all agreed we were glad we didnt.
The location is amazing and the breakfast is good too.
Overall good value for money for a good solid 2 star hotel / hostel.

“Great Stay - you get what you pay for!”

I stayed in this hostel in June 2010 as part of a trip with some friends form uni to see and enjoy Amsterdam. I have just stumbled across these reviews when trying to make sure I had the name of the hostel right as I am recommending it to another friend.
We stayed for two nights and could not fault the hostel, it's cleanliness, it's staff or the food that was included at breakfast.
I think we paid 50 euros each for our two night stay, which is remarkable to such a location in such a popular and amazing city. I had never been to Amsterdam before and thought it was amazing!
I think some of the reviews on here are typical brits moaning about the smallest of things.
Me and my 4 friends who all come from different areas and backgrounds of England could not fault it at all. The showers and toilets were shared but spotlessly clean and not once did we have to wait to use them.
I think comments like it being in the middle of the red light district and that parts of it smelt like marijuana are just stupid! Part of the reason people go to Amsterdam no matter what sex or age is to have a look at what the red light district is as it's part of the city's culture.
You are in a country where this is legal and where smoking marijuana is also legal, so I really do not know what you expected staying in a central location in a place which is also a hostel.
Great stay, great location, no faults. If i was ever going back to the city, I would not hesitate in staying here and would recommend it to any of my friends that want a cheap and central place to stay to experience the life and culture of such a brilliant place!

“Sweet spot”

Great location on the western edge of the Red Light District. Everything is within walking distance, depending on how comfy your shoes are and, of course, your own personal levels of fitness/obesity. The national monument is only about five minutes away, but somehow the street the hotel is located on is NOT all that busy or noisy. Train station is also quite close.

As of this writing, there was a coffee shop and a hooker den right across the street, which adds to the scenic environment.

Room was quite nice for the price. No bugs or weird things going on there.

On-site internet (4 computers, cheap rates), and if you can drag yourself up before 10 o'clock the free breakfast is worthwhile before starting your day.
