Stayed here from march 31-April 5. We arrived several hours before the allowed check in. Our room was ready and the allowed us to check in early with a fee and also had breakfast while waiting!!
We stayed in the part of the hotel that is actually out the back door, into an alley and a few doors down. As your walking down the alleys there r several 'red light' women, therefore attracting people to the alley. After a tricky walk up 3 flights of stairs (remember holland=narrow stairs), we were located on the top floor facing a lovely canal! The room was small however it was a double with a cot taking up most of the space as there were 3 of us. The shower was across the hall and bathroom down the hall.
The room felt damp the first night however that seemed to go away. There was a sink in the room and I dont know if it was that sink or something else, but there was a persistent smell of rotting eggs. Didn't bother us too much as we weren't in the room that often. We didnt hear alot of noise from neighbors durin the daylight hours. However at night, people coming up the stairs, closing doors (which always seemed to slam) and even a good screaming match!!
The hostel is about 2 blocks from Damrak and about 5-7 minutes walk from Central! Lots of shops and cafes along the way. Also a little variety store beside and a nice coffeehouse across the street.
This hostel is definitely one that u pay for what u get. Don't expect a holiday inn or anything. It's central to the party scene so keep that in mind. I would stay again however only if I was traveling on a tight budget again. Otherwise spend a little more $$ and get something a little nicer smelling.
