We just loved Dera Mandawa.
We stayed here in late December. The place is beautiful, with a lovely courtyard area. The rooms are very spacious and a great blend of tradition and style. We were upstairs and there is great outdoor area outside the three suites there where you can laze. The photos do not do justice to it.
The owner and staff were great - charming, helpful and very pleasant. We ate in and greatly enjoyed the food and the personal service.
The best place we stayed in Rajasthan by a mile and we can't recommend highly enough.
I have been travelling into India for almost 20 years and this is in my top 5 hotels to stay. The attention to detail in the rooms is brilliant (who knew bathroom tiling in India could be this good!), the showers were amazing, the rooms decorated in an understated Rajasthani/haveli style. We stayed upstairs where the three rooms faced onto a tiny upstairs courtyard - it was romantic and beautiful. Breakfast was with pressed juice, porridge milled from their own estate, real coffee...The owners have real ecological concerns so the hot water is solar powered and bathroom goodies are proper milled soap etc. I stayed four days and could have stayed a month. My charming hosts could not have improved on our stay in any way. Even with my three year old son bombing about. Highly, highly recommended.
I stayed at Dera Mandawa with my family for three nights in late December. Dera Mandawa is truly a gem, amidst the busy streets of Jaipur – a delightful place to stay! We found the hotel, which is actually a beautiful Haveli, converted into a hotel, to be extremely comfortable, relaxing and accommodating. The huge duplex room which was given to us has ‘jharokhas’ (an overhanging enclosed balcony) on the upper floor, adding to the aesthetic appearance of the room. Although all the rooms have been remodelled to include all the modern amenities for the comfort of the guests, the management has ensured the rooms continue to retain the royal look! The rooms and especially the bathrooms are clean and fresh and everything is of a very high quality. The common courtyard meant for all the guests provided ample space to relax and enjoy the sunny afternoons.
The owner, Thakur Durga Singhji, is extremely hospitable and very pleasant to interact with. We were also very impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. The food served is excellent, especially the ginger tea and mixed fried pakoras!
We were very reluctant to depart from Dera Mandawa at the end of our trip but have decided to visit Jaipur more often simply to stay in this hotel. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Jaipur. It’s truly a home away from home.
I stayed in five hotels during my 10 day tour of Rajasthan, and Dera Mandawa was by far my favorite hotel. The garden courtyard was quiet and a lovely place to enjoy breakfast. I stayed in two different rooms and both were charming and uniquely decorated. I loved the french press coffee and biscuits delivered to my room every morning. The breakfasts were delicious and I enjoyed trying both the Indian breakfast and the more traditional western style breakfast. The staff was gracious from the time I first walked through the entrance until the day I reluctantly departed. This hotel is another great reason to return to India.
