“nice room, more than friendly staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2012

the hotel is central, in a nice, green and quiet street of colaba. - a good joice for a trip to mumbai.

most interesting things to see are just a walk away- museums, the taj, art galleries, markets, the marine drive,... great restaurants and bars just around the corner ("koyla" - a rooftop restaurant just 1 minute away- is highly recommended!!!).
if you like longer walks- wander along the marine drive up to chowpatti beach for sunset! many people, good vibe, seabreeze and a orange-pink sun behind the mumbai-skyline! just amazing.

most of all its important for us to mention the friendly, caring staff at ascot!
we forgot something very important to us in our room, went to south india by plane, came back to mumbai after 2 weeks and menesis from the reception managed it in such a polite and friendly way -by many phonecalls and efforts- to get it back to us at the international airport before we left india for austria... thank you so much for that!!!

also during our stay everybody was very nice, the breakfast was good, free wifi,...
can`t recommend it more!

“Good room, GREAT location, but service hiccups”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

I booked quite early direct with the hotel, and they wouldn't confirm whether I could have the deluxe level room, although I asked for one. They clearly wanted to keep them up their sleeves for favoured guests, WHICH ANNOYED ME. The ordinary level room was, however, fine for the weekend. The hotel pickup from the airport was smooth, and overall the staff were polite and friendly.

We were asked to swap rooms on our first night when we returned to the hotel from dinner at 10pm. It was "sold" as being for our benefit because our bed was twin beds pushed together, and the central aircon unit was just above our ceiling. Actually we think it was because there was a group on our floor who already had a few rooms and wanted ours, too. Incredibly the would-be swap-ees (in an identical room on the floor below) had already agreed to "help us" and were ready to go at 10pm ... just for us. But we had already unpacked and settled in, so we said no. And strangely we didn't hear much noise from the aircon. Maybe if it had been an upgrade to the type of room I had tried to book in the first place, I might have been tempted.

We enjoyed this small-ish hotel mostly for the fabulous location, which is on a corner near the Colaba Causeway in a tree-lined side street, and five minutes from the water. It's VERY well located for many major attractions - museums and monuments, plus parks, shopping and restaurants - all within an easy walk of 20 minutes, at the most.
Our room was nicely, if boringly, renovated. It's a good quality business hotel style. Lots of marble, glass and hard surfaces. For a holiday it was lacking in character, but we were happy to have a lovely firm bed/s, good quality sheets, nice towels, a big shower, a bath (we didn't use) and a reasonable amount of space. The room was well serviced.
We weren't so happy about the TV - fair enough to have lots of Indian language stations, but some in English would have been good - there were only a few. It was disappointing we couldn't watch the Australian Open Tennis finals bc there was no Star Sports. There seemed to be a good number of Arabic language stations (this hotel hosts a lot of Gulf visitors, apparently). But it was frustrating that English-speaking tourists were not as well served - there seemed to be a fair few Western guests at the hotel, too.
Our electronic door "keycard" stopped working and the hotel was not able to reprogram it over the weekend we were there, or provide a replacement that worked. We had to ask for a staff member to open the door for us when we returned to our room, which was irritating for everybody, I imagine.
The breakfast was OK only - but enough to start the day. There was no other refreshment service provided that I could see although bottled water was available.. The staff on reception were helpful and recommended some good (if expensive) local restaurants.
The room had a safe, and there was a laptop with Internet in the foyer, which was locked away at night - but you could use the office PC at night if necessary.
So service OK, room comfortable and clean, and a great location. I would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Try for 4th floor because it's the top floor with nobody above. Rooms at the back have less stre...

“nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

This hotel is located in a good area in Colaba right off of the causeway. It's near shops and the gateway of india as well as the world renowned Taj Mahal Hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious. We found the shower to be great. AC worked well and the hotel was relatively quiet at night (not too much noise from traffic). The hotel staff is, eh. Not too interesting. Free wifi only in the lobby. If you want it in your room you have to pay. This hotel is far from both airports (~45 minutes away) so keep that in mind. The price was higher than we would have liked to spend. We paid ~$150 USD a night.

“Rude inexplicable behaviour”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Booked a room for Jan 29th thru BOOKING.COM on October 28th on internet. Arriving after an 11 hour journey, a chap called Jackson at Ascot told us that they did not have a room for us in spite of the confirmed booking document in our hands, but that they had made arrangements for us at their OTHER hotel. Having heard about this scam before, we said we wanted the room booked for us by BOOKING.COM October 28th and as our document clearly showed. They laughingly told us that people who were in our room had left early in the morning for a 'medical' appointment and what could they do? We suggested they give us another room or remove their belongings as it was already 1 pm and 12 noon is checkout time. Frustrated and angry, we advised of our limited time in Mumbai with no tolerance for their shenanigans as I had very carefully planned my flight, & arrival in order to catch the boat to Elephanta Is. in October last year. As the last boat departs at 3 pm, time was very relevant, particularly as we were leaving Mumbai late that night, respectively bound back to Australia at 10 pm and Canada at 2 am. They stood firm and loaded us into a tiny cab which was only large enough for our luggage but were squeezed in. Apart for the frustration of this scenario, I had been injured in a bus accident while touring India, 5 days earlier and had 2 painful, broken ribs.....we were NOT amused. At this point I dashed back to the desk to ask if this is how women are treated in India to find all three employees laughing out loud. The OTHER hotel, 'didn't have our room ready' but would move us later.....no time for any further nonsense, we left for the dock to catch the 2 pm boat to Elephanta. To add insult to this frustrating experience, the Ascot hotel lied to Booking.com putting them into the position of not knowing who was telling the truth. The hotel insists that we arrived too early for check in and that we had refused to wait for our room, had this been anything like the truth, we simply would have left our luggage with them and returned to the room after our trip to Elephanta Is. I will never book with BOOKING.COM again and you should consider this very carefully, as they will NOT support you, even when you are the wronged party.

Room Tip: apparently one needs to avoid using Booking.com
