“Decent and comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

My previous office was located on the same street as this hotel, so I frequently got a chance to visit and stay at this hotel.

It's not exceptional, but nonetheless comfortable and manages to retain an old-world, heritage charm to it. Food quality and taste is decent and overall service is good.

First time travellers might find it a bit claustrophobic, but thats because of the old construction. The owner is a helpful and cheerful chap and is constantly rebovating/doing up the hotel to maintain it's charm.

“Average hotel, coridors not so clean.”

I stayed in this hotel for a night on my way to delhi via mumbai. The entrance was good with nice decor, the room was also quite ok, there was air conditioner in the room. But the bathroom was not at all attractive. The also have a money changing service within the hotel. The corridors were hot and the staff were also not always available to man the lift. In mumbai one can hardly expect a good hotel unless you stay in some 5 star place.

“Grand Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

Located on Ballard Street, this Hotel reminds you of the grand old times of British Raj. A bit of history is reflected on this typically British styled Hotel, though inside, it has been modernised with well appointed rooms, neat and clean ambiance, and good fitments and well sanitised attached bathroom.
Though wi-fi is available it does not work in the rooms, and it would be better if the morning breakfast is served by some senior staff instead of trainees. Breakfast is served in the restaurant between 8am to 10am and in case you reach after 9:30am you would probably end up drinking cold tea, which does not get replenished or served afresh.

“Slightly run-down, but charming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2010

Stayed at the Grand Hotel for three nights at the beginning of my first trip to India... An atmospheric introduction to the country. The place, although having recently undergone renovation, looks decidedly worn and a bit rough around the edges, and the grand (sic) facade impression doesn't really hold up once you're inside. That said, rooms are huge and the hint of a good-old-days ambience is appealing. Setting is peaceful, in a beautiful and quiet colonial-era neigbourhood; Victoria termnius is a 5-minute walk away, and Colaba is 20 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride (if you want to stay in the centre of the tourist mayhem, go elsewhere). Staff are eager, breakfast is cheerless and rudimentary. Compared to the rest of India, the place is massivelz overpriced, but so are all of Mumbai's hotels.

“It is ok.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2008

The hotel is a bit dated looking. the room we received feels a little bit institutional but was large and comfortable. it seemed clean. no hairs or bugs on the bed!
the bathroom is a bit grotty and there were some hairs and such about the room.
the room had a fan, aircon, a television and DVD player. the television had no english channels but DVD's were available at reception. we lso received complimentary water, soft drinks, newspaper and wifi.
breakfast was included but we did not get a chance to try it. the bar and restaurant were closed to the public but room service was apparently available 24 hours a day. we tried twice to order room service but were unsuccessful.
the food available in the hotel seemed overpriced.
the staff were certainley friendly and tried to be helpful but were never really able to help us with anything.
overall the hotel was fine but somewhat overpriced.

  • Liked — The free wifi.
  • Disliked — The price and the hairs in the bathroom.
