With views of the beach and sea, the hotel restaurant looked like a nice place to have a meal. So I took my family there for lunch. We were all having drinks, when my wife commented that her so called 'Fresh' orange juice didn't taste right. I took a sip and also thought it tasted a bit stale. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he insisted it was fresh. I asked him to try it himself, which he refused. On my insistence he took it back to the kitchen and came back five minutes later with the same glass. He said the head chef told him there was nothing wrong with it. In any case he said "if you hadn't drunk half of it I would have done something". I couldn't believe what I was hearing. We had only taken two sips from the glass. I found it quite insulting to be accused of trying to get a free drink. In any five star establishment they would have just replaced the drink without question. These guys were quibbling over a drink worth Rs20 for which they were charging me ten times. The manager took twenty minutes to arrive and after another ten minutes of squabbling behind the scenes (presumably with the head chef), offered to change the drink. By this time all we wanted to do was leave. They didn't charge me for the juice, but I later found out they had charged me double for the beer. When you visit a five star establishment and pay ten times normal rates, you are paying for service not insults. Was this a five star service? I think not.
