“Definitely NOT a 5 star!”

I was extremely disappointed when I checked in. The lobby seemed adequate, but the rooms were disgusting! The problem is that this hotel is advertised on multiple websites with pictures of comfy rooms and an upscale image and a 5 star rating. NOT SO. It should be downgraded to a 2 star. I looked at 4 rooms on the 4th floor all were musty smelling, black mold growing in the bathroom shower tiles and cracks in the walls. There were 2 bottles of supposedly fresh water sitting on the fridge, but after closer inspection I noticed the bottles had the labels removed and the seals were broken! So, basically refilled with…tap water? I saw these same type bottles in all the rooms. They showed me something on the 6th floor which they said had been renovated due to a fire. Ahh…now here is where the internet pictures may have come from? Perhaps…the foyer on the 6th floor was like stepping into a different hotel…but these rooms were still lacking in 5 star qualities, needing a repainting, dressers having nicks in them, etc. Lastly, the pool area, advertised as an evening picture surrounded with lounge chairs and an inviting pool…what it really had was 3 chairs, and the water had a dark green brown color to it (Obviously needing Chlorine). The manager did admit that they were planning renovation, and the staff was nice. They even wrote a letter for me to take to my travel agent for my refund. I ended up checking into the ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton which is defiantly a 5 star!

“Tulip Star Hotel - Juhu Beach”

Likes: Hotel very clean and palatial. Rooms clean and spacious. Very similar to Crowne Plaza hotel. Hot water 24/7. Right on the beach. Citibank ATM right across the street. Balconies that overlook beach.

Dislikes: Pricey hotel. Not a place to meet people. Serves "higher" clientelle who value privacy. One security guard indirectly asked for money. I told him I would if he would write a receipt so that I could show it to his manager. He backed down.

Neutral: Right on beach. Accesable by walking along an alley that leads to the beach.

“Not a 5 star hotel anymore”

Tulip Star should be down graded to 3 or 4 stars. I have previously stayed in the hotel twice. But it was a real shock this time. I stayed in the deluxe room - most expensive on the 6th floor. The room was in a terrible state and needs redecorating. There was problem with hot shower at times. The breakfast was not impressive and the restaurant staff need more training on customer care. Not staying there again for the room rate I paid. A rip off.

“utter disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2004

I had the misfortune of staying in tulip star hotel during a 15 hour layover in Mumbai. The hotel used to be the previous Centaur which was indeed a 5 star property 25 years ago. I am shocked at how the web sites on internet still classify this hotel as a five star property. On arrival, the lobby appeared fairly impressive but once I entered the room I got utterly shocked to see the sorry state of deterioration. The air condition was not working and a pedestal fan churned out humid air for ventilation. There were cockroaches crawling and I had to change my room. A terrible musty smell prevailed and the bathrooms had water clogging everywhere with the poorest qulaity of so called toiletries. Breakfast was a diasaster and the quality of food and presentation unbelievable. The waiters conversed loudly and service was nonexistent at its best. I just could not wait to check out and go back to the airport. Luckily it was a free STPC and I didnt have to pay anything as it would be a shame to spend even 1 rupee on this horribly deteriorated property managed by Air India which itself reflects the epitome of deterioration in standards of service and quality.
