“Slow down. Relax. Chill out. Enjoy.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Imagine a commune in the highlands of Maharasthra state, its inhabitants living in a longhouse built on a low ridge in the traditional tribal style of the region (i.e. a single building with a high-pitched roof that encompasses the living quarters, the kitchen, the dining area, and the meeting area), and surrounded by a forest of flowering bushes and fruit trees teeming with birds. The thatched roof of the longhouse sheds the monsoon rains from June through August, provides shelter from the sun the rest of the year, and directs even the smallest breath of air through the wall-less structure. Guest houses are scattered along the base of the ridge and provide visitors with modern amenities such as hot water showers, flush toilets, ceiling fans, and electric lights (from about 6pm until 6am). Hosts for your visit will be Hemant and Sangeeta, but members of their immediate and extended “family” will make you feel most welcome in a lilting mixture of English and Hindi. These lands were completely logged off 24 years ago, but with careful husbandry and composting of the natural plant materials, fruit trees and vegetables are now being grown to feed the guests. Slow down. Relax. Chill out. Enjoy.

“Simply.Divine.Come here if you love yourself enough to discover what you really want is how little you actually need.”

Staying at HideOut is like staying with Nani- its so much like sleeping in Grandma's lap. The mudhouse where we stayed was awesome and even though we stayed for just one day, we followed the concept of eating healthy, breathing easy and living light. Hemant, the owner welcomed us to his home with so much affection, warmth and genuine care, we felt at home. His farm has been developed and nurtured like a baby and his passion about Nature and Health is translated into the many insights he gave us during the farm tours
My parents aged 80+ and 75, had a great time and my ten year niece enjoyed preparing a salad in the traditional way. I was touched when Hemant checked about our food preferences and took pains to prepare meals without besan/gramflour that my niece is allergic to. We had a faboulous time at the farm and also at the nearby dam/lake. Come here if you love yourself enough to discover what you really want is how little you actually need. I am definitely going back soon.

Room Tip: This is not a place with room service and swimming pools. It is a place that believes in practicing...

My son started going to hideout first on the recommendation of my doctor and it took me a while to make a trip there due to my office schedules etc.
After having been to the place this place is like going back to my granny days the smell of chulla, the mud floorings, greenery, the authentic and healthy nutritious food, the warmth and affection from Hemant and Sangeeta.I am in California USA currently and my son goes over to hideout alone and is such a safe place for him as he is in the hands of Hemant.
My son learnt to swim in deep waters due to the opportunity he got here, which he does not have in the school as they have few feet deep pools.
We can be by ourselves in Hideout and Hemant makes sure we are by ourselves at peace in case it is not happening. The joy of plucking the fruits and flowers is awesome.

Hemant and Sangeeta are very warm and loving and make us feel at home immediately.

In all a great place for re energising worth an experience to take .

Room Tip: I like the mud houses as they are not isolated compared to eco house.

It's always great to have Vikram over, and we were happy to have you on your last trip. How come you scored us only on four stars? Is there some room for improvement? We would be glad to hear about it. Thanks!

“A successful google hit & much more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

'Exotic' is a term i would like to associate with HIDE OUT! A two and half hour road trip (from mumbai) would take you to this place- follow their road map and you'll never go wrong..

As we reached, we were cordially greeted by Hemant who showed us our eco-cottage- a room that will place you very close to nature- you get to see the sky and the fresh green from above the thick curtained walls. The room and the entire place is very aesthetically made up- pieces of art out together with so much taste.. it looks even more blissful in the evening with the diyas and lanterns- and not to forget the jhoolas/ hammocks are perfect for star-watching -- a perfect escape from the busy city life!

The Farm: is a home to many a birds and is rich in green. There is a big well with a really big bull-frog; a few huts, a cow-shed- in short, its picturesque! Go birdwatching in the morning or take a dip in the fresh water lake (or under the small waterfall) in the evening and you will fall in love with the place..

The Ambience: is so homely-from chopping veggies to lighting diyas- you can chip in your efforts and feel at home! Not to forget, the evenings also had fun-filled games. Courtesy: Dominic!

The Food: is simple and home-made. It will never disappoint your taste buds or your digestive system.

The Best Part: spending new year's at the farm - the bonfire clubbed with yum food; flute and tabla and later with everyone humming to Beatles and old bollywood melodies was so different and peaceful!

We would recommend all you nature lovers (even if you aren't, you will end up being one) to go and tantalize your senses at Hide-out! You'll feel rejuvenated as you wake up to the rustling of leaves every morning there. The Farm will leave you merry!

“Utter peace and tranquility - just a stones throw from Mumbai”

My stay at the Hideout couldn't have been a better therapy for my busy life in Mumbai. Just 3 hours out of the city and you are in a wild, lush jungle environment, staying in a beautiful little village that takes you back to an ancient India. the Hideout is more than a hotel, its a home full of love and you quickly fall into the rhythm of the farm and village life. We spent our days swimming in the lake and waterfall, trekking around the forest, meeting the villagers and observing their way of life, lying on hammocks reading and sleeping. Evenings involved campfire songs and long delicious multi-course dinners. Excellent organic vegetarian food is served and everyone washes their own plates together. Alcohol is discouraged and accommodation is basic (but very beautiful). Overall, a fantastic rejuvenating experience that I can't wait to repeat again.
