We chose this hotel based on the very good lonely planet review but, whilst we usually agree with their recommendations, they've got this one completely wrong.
Firstly the price was far too high. This hotel was 1750 rs per room without ac, a decent window or a bathroom. Although our budget was half of this which had never been a problem elsewhere in India, we initially overlooked it, as the lonley planet review suggested that it was clean and that prices in Mumbai were massively high compared to elsewhere. However, the room smelt musty and of sweat, it was seriously muggy, hotter inside than out (saying something given that it was 38 degrees outside).
On top of this, the ladies bathroom was not cleaned once in my 3 night stay. I could tell this as i left a soap and loo roll wrapper in there when I first arrived as there was no bin, and they were still there 3 days later when I checked out. Loo roll was not provided, the toilet was visibly unclean and there wasn't any hot water for the entire of my stay.
To make matters worse, the staff were very unprofessional. There seemed to be an awful lot of them (3 per corridor) and they loitered outside our room, staring when we left which made us feel very uncomfortable. They slept on the floors in the corridors and when we returned to our hotel at 10.30pm after a meal out, we had to step over three of them sprawled on the staircase, who made no attempt to move to let us by. They would knock and then walk straight into the room, if we ordered coffee for example, then wouldn't leave, making it very clear they were waiting for a tip (one even asked for one). Whilst we are never hesitant to tip when we receive decent service, we were reluctant to do so when the staff are merely doing their jobs (and poorly at that).
On top of this, even basic cleaning tasks were left incomplete by the staff. Whilst they were loitering at the end of corridors, there were numerous dirty pots of tea and coffee and cups lining the corridors outside the rooms.
Whilst the hotel does not serve an evening meal, the staff still eat plates of food. These dirty plates are then left in the middle of the corridor outside the bathroom for no apparent reason. I tripped over one of these when I went to brush my teeth at 10 pm and was absolutely horrified to find that in the morning at 7am, these plates were still there and that they had doubled in number since the night before.
I would seriously suggest that you do not use this hotel in Mumbai, there are plenty better, cheaper options. In fact a travelodge in Britain would be cheaper than this and would be a million times cleaner and more professional.
