The Ritz hotel, now at the old Regency Is a friendly clean establishment. The beds are a bit hard, but the shower works and clean towels are provided. Food served is edible but not exciting. The area apart from one or two early morning vans, is reasonably quiet and if you are up for it you can get a buttock clenching ride in an auto rickshaw (more exciting then 'bungee jumping')

We read the reviews about this hotel in trip advisor. But may be because of its ranking in trip advisor (and the name of the hotel) we were rather skeptical. It was however a very pleasant surprise. The rooms were much bigger and cleaner than some of the expensive hotels. Same goes for the bathroom,toilet. The best part is its proximity to the zoo.
The hotel staff was warm and friendly. In fact they took the 3 year old with us to show some puppies nearby which really pleased her.
My only complaint would be that the reception was in their bar/restaurant and rooms too were very close. For a lot of Indian families the smell of beer may not be very welcoming. This however is a very negligible flaw. I would definitely recommend it to fellow travelers.

The Ritz has moved, it is now based at the Regency Theatre near the zoo. All the rickshaw drivers can take you there easily and it is well known and still only a 10 minute walk to the palace. Believe me, we have checked out every budget hotel in Mysore and this is now by far the best place, huge rooms, great bathrooms, clean, new and good value and a pretty good restaurant attached too. And it is so peaceful, you can barely hear the traffic, a rare treat in Mysore.

What The Ritz lacks in cleanliness and overall quality, it makes up in friendly staff and charm. Between the four rooms is a cozy living room area where you can read the paper and enjoy a simple breakfast. The front desk was very helpful in booking a bus to Ooty. The staff was also very helpful in killing perhaps the largest cockroach I have ever seen in our bathroom. The hotel is shifting to a new, larger location with more rooms in a few weeks.
