It is extremely difficult for me to be very objective and pen down why one should visit Oakwood. I have been there twice- yet I have always came back wanting more. On both the occasions, I have been there with my set of friends and the nights we have spent sitting around the bonfire, enjoying the weather and the view of those luscious mountains with the Manager of the place (Dixit), ever so happily, strumming the guitar for us, have become our fondest memories. Oakwood, for me, goes beyond the usual decorative adjectives like "beautiful", "breathtaking", "tranquil", "peaceful" e.t.c. Not that it is not all of the these things, but so much more. The word that comes closest to doing justice to Oakwood is simply "ünpretentious". Don't expect the usual commercialized 5 star/7star experience. Because this place is more organic and personal than that. Surrounded by the gorgeous mountains, a breathtaking view feasts the eye in every direction and point. Dotted with quaint mud huts and cottages brilliantly placed at just the right distance from each other. During both my visits, I have found it pleasantly difficult to believe that all the huts and cottages were occupied because it just doesn't feel like that. The sense of calm and tranquility that envelopes you the moment you step into Oakwood is precious and for want of a better word, "other-worldly". Time seems to stand still. But the absolute strength of Oakwood is it's staff, comprising Pahadi localites, who are not trained to greet or help you in rehearsed English, with a fake smile plastered across their faces 24x7. But are happy to help with a genuine eagerness. Oakwood intends to give you a real taste of the Pahadi life, which even reflects in the food served there- not over the top, but still very pleasing. It is a know fact that Shimla promises excellent weather and amazing natural beauty. Oakwood, unlike other lodges, does not exploit or commercialize it, but delightfully let's it be, just the way the Maker intended.
All rooms are clean and comforable. Not your usual fare, very unique.
