“Worst experience in Delhi. Do not stay here!”
To all discerning travellers,
Our stay at New Delhi Bed and Breakfast was nothing short of a crazy and traumatic experience. The first night I stayed there on my own while my Fiance was on a business trip. The second night my Fiance arrived at the B&B at 12:15am because his business meeting had run late. We had previously discussed this with Renu, the owner, and she had not expressed any concernes about this. However, shortly before he arrived as I was unlocking the front door for him, Renu came up behind me in the dark and started screaming at me that 'THIS IS NOT A WHORE HOUSE!!!', and was yelling at me repeatedly calling me a prostitute! She screamed at me to get out and then phoned the police.
I was shocked and appalled by this behaviour, and deeply insulted at the accusation that I was a prostitute. I felt scared of this woman as she was completely out of control of herself and unstable. She forced us to find alternative accomodation in the middle of the night, and refused to return the money we had paid for the night.
Regretably we had given her my Fiance's business card, and since our stay there she has contacted his company and told them he was spending time with a prostitute.
I am a woman who dresses quite conservatively, I dont drink or smoke or take drugs. I had been a quiet guest, mostly spending time reading a book in her courtyard and I was wearing my engagement ring. Im highly educated and have a health sciences degree. In no way could I be confused with a prostitute. Im still at a loss to understand how this woman could behave in such an insulting and bizzare way towards her guests.
I would definitely not recomend this B&B to anyone.

It is so strange and terrible that I have to defend myself when in reality it was I that was put through a most horrific experience. Nonetheless, I am delighted to have the opportunity to explain this most unfortunate and regrettable incident (my first in almost 10 years of running this B&B). Please note that my philosophy is that the guest is always right, I welcome their business and realize that they have choices to take their business elsewhere. Having said that, it is important to keep in mind the following:
1. A B&B is exactly what is says on the box – “A Home-Stay” meant for genuine bona fide travelers. The reviewer’s honesty and sincerity of intention is in serious question here. With every of intention to deceive she has narrated half truths and down right lies. Her review is mendacious.
2. Room is let out in “good faith”. A person’s credentials are their behaviour. I do not conduct a background check on the bona fide’s of each guest. Firstly, room was let out only to the reviewer (as a single occupancy). Further, here at New Delhi Bed and Breakfast we are very clear about the facilities we offer and have placed a “list of services” in each room. Within an hour of being here the reviewer was accusing me of being, “a cheat like every other Indian” and then there was an onslaught of racial slur and slamming of doors. I was so shaken. I am 57 years old. Have worked in senior positions in multi-national companies, including the World Bank and foreign Diplomatic Missions. I explained that if she had a laptop, use of the Wi-Fi connection was free of cost. For use of the in-house PC there was a small charge of Rs.50. Her hysteria so distressed me. I wanted my home to be peaceful again. I said to her that she could use my PC free of charge just so that peace would return. Later that evening she apologized. She said that she had been in India since December 10th, 2009 and hated it. She had quit her job back home, given up her apartment putting her things in storage, and had non-changeable Qantas return ticket for March 2010.
The next night, at around midnight, I found her with a flashlight using the house keys to open the front door. Her conduct was so terrifying, dangerous and out of line. Her reason “she wanted to make babies”. As this was her last night in India she had invited a gentleman to spend the night.
3. The reviewer’s actions were unlawful, and compromised our safety and security. Hospitality is a business that will never have a 100% satisfaction rate. However, having said this, I don’t think anybody would disagree that no innkeeper is expected to put their life on the line!
