My friend and I stayed here in July 2011 in the Taj Club rooms. Overall, we were blown away by the service received. Staff were willing to help us with everything, from organising day trips to exchanging money to recommending dance clubs for our nights on the town. Tips are not expected, but I did tip some of the people that I felt were above and beyond the call of their duty, and really made us feel like stars! Everyone is willing to help, and service is first class.
The toiletries in the room were beautiful!! And I usually never even pay attention to things like that!
As far as India goes, its an expensive hotel, but you get a lot for your money. The restaurants are AMAZING. Absolutely loved all of them. Enjoyed the cocktails each night in the Taj Club room as well.
There are shops nearby, but you need to cross a very busy roundabout which is pretty scary (part of the Delhi experience) but be brave and you'll get across!
There were only 2 down sides to our stay. The first was that my friend booked a spa appointment and was disappointed. Probably wouldn't recommend the spa (given the prices). The second was that there was an issue with our bill upon check out. We had booked with a promotional rate where each 3rd night was free. Whilst there we extended our stay for another 3 nights (because we were enjoying it so much) and when we asked about the rate, the reservation staff told us that it would be on the same promotional rate. Unfortunately, we were charged for the full three days and this became apparent while we were about to leave for the airport, causing a lot of stress. The hotel eventually reimbursed us (but I was disappointed by the reservation manager and his lack of professionalism during this error on his staff's part, given all the money we had spent at the hotel's bars, restaurants, spa, etc let alone the cost of the room).
I would definitely return to this hotel (however I would recommend to everyone that you TRIPLE check your bill when checking out).
Room Tip: Book the Taj Club!! You get cocktails every night on Level 8, high tea every afternoon, breakfast ea...
