“Paradise!”

My new husband I stayed here for four nights on our honeymoon. We were a little apprehensive after reading some negative reviews but we had a wonderful experience.

We opted for the all-inclusive deal, which includes 3 meals and 1 excursion every day, tourist tax, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and use of snorkel equipment and kayaks. It was great to forget about money while we were there and it seemed to be a good deal. We went snorkeling and visited Dolphin Bay and Caya Zapatillas--all of which were just lovely! The day trips are somewhat dependent on the weather, which can be a bit rainy. We were able to go out every day but would have been totally content watching the rain over the ocean from our bungalow.

The meals were great. Fresh fruit, cereal, bread, eggs, and coffee for breakfast, a different lunch every day (followed by more coffee), and a gourmet 3-course meal for dinner. Martin, who lives on the island and manages Al Natural, makes sure that the food accommodates different tastes and allergies.

The setting was unreal--we saw phosphorescent plankton every night, a manta ray, beautiful birds and butterflies, and tiny lizards. The water is shallow and crystal clear, and there is no civilization in site. It was easy to unplug and relax.

We read on the website that guests need to bring beach towels and a flashlight--very true! I would also highly recommend bringing lots of strong sunscreen, bug repellent, a camera, spare batteries, and cigarettes (if you are a smoker). There is nowhere nearby to stock up on these things.

This is definitely not a posh resort where you can get a seaside massage and check your email in air conditioning. This is a very laid-back hotel made up of bungalows without full walls. That said, we had a considerable amount of privacy and loved waking up every morning in a king-sized bed overlooking the ocean. My husband and I have only been back for a few days but were are already planning our next visit.

“Nice location”

We enjoyed the location. The Hotel was okay but a little over priced in our opinion. Unfortunately not many choices in that area. Nice snorkeling on the reef and along the shore. Free use of their snorkeling equipment. Indian village not worth the hike. They do have kayaks for your use and if you purchase the all inclusive option a trip is included each day. No bartender or manager most nights when we were there although the owner did join us for dinner briefly each day. Not necessarily bad as we got to serve ourselves at the bar. Cold beer not always available as there is limited ice brought in each day. Food not great but not bad either.

“After 8 days there I didn't want to go home at all! This is Paradise!!!”

My husband and I wanted to run away from our busy Manhattan to the place where we could enjoy a beautiful nature and a great service. From the moment you get in Bocas del Toro you can forget worrying about all the organizational details. Everything has been thought through for you, for your convenience. They pick you up in the city and bring you to the island where the paradise vacation begins. The houses are very clean (they clean them every day). The nature is very beautiful! There are trails to the village and to the other side of the island. There are night monkeys on the island which can be fed by YOU! The personnel is very helpful, attentive and nice. Speaking about the food... the meals we ate were seriously among the best meals my husband and I ate in our lives. And we love eating regularly in very nice restaurants in Manhattan. So, Vincent and Martin are great chefs with a talent and great heart. You'll love these guys. They make you laugh and make you feel like a member of Al Natural family. There are diverse activities and adventures which you can do there: snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, canopy zip line, tours to the other islands, a tour in the village of native Indians, ping pong right to the building where we ate our meals. The place is very relaxing, beautiful, unique in a good way. If you decide to choose Al Natural, don't forget to enjoy every second there and make a lot of pictures to be able to remember a beautiful vacation on a beautiful island. Michel, the owner of the resort, was very friendly and nice to us. He helped us with advice what to do and where to go. My husband and I would love to thank Martin, Vincent, Michel and all the other personnel for our wonderful vacation! We'll come back for sure!

“Charming Caribbean Gem!!!”

What a wonderful time! After arriving at Bocas airport, we were met by Cesar who picked us up by taxi and brought to the Al Natural boat landing in Bocas town. The boat ride from Bocas to Al Natural lasts about 40 minutes and takes you through picturesque coastal waterways and mangroves. Upon arriving at Al Natural, we were greeted by Martin who was a fantastic host!!! From the get-go, Martin helped us plan our excursions and made sure we had everything we needed. He had a great personality and was extremely accommodating, not to mention that he whips up some very tasty Caipirinhas and Naturalitos you've ever had!
For accommodations, we stayed at one of the Superior Natural Houses which boasted a thatched roof and beautiful ocean view worthy of a postcard. We had our own little deck with a small table, hammock and some lounge chairs that made it very easy to relax. Our boat trips took us to various deserted beaches and towns around the islands. Zapatillas was absolutely one of the highlights!!! Unbeleivable snorkeling off the boat and an afternoon on a pristine beach can not be beat!!! Additionally, there are at least three different reefs directly in front of Al natural accessible by swimming or by kayak, that were just loaded with tropical fish and coral. The food was fresh and flavorful. Local fisherman would bring in their daily catch consisting of Wahoo, Barracuda and Snapper which was deliciously prepared by Chef Vincent.
Plenty of wildlife around such as monkeys, birds, Jesus Lizzards and more. The light show put on by the plankton in the evening is a real thrill as well.
The staff was courteous and friendly. If there was something that we needed, all we had to do was ask.
All in all I would definitely recommend Al Natural to anyone who is looking for a real island vacation. There is no cell service, wifi, internet, telephone, which makes it perfect for REALLY getting away! If you want to stay under a charming thatched roof while listening to the ocean lapping at the shore, this place is for you.

“A letdown after La Loma Jungle Lodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

It seems that Al Natural was amazing about ten years ago. Now it seems run-down, and that the owner is not interested in investing in maintenance. I found the food only so-so. While the setting is beautiful, on the Caribbean, I found the actual swimming not great (a lot of sea grass in the vicinity of the resort). Everyone seemed burnt-out.

Also, prices for excursions were not readily available (and no price was mentioned when Michele, the owner explained that there would be a snorkling trip the afternoon I arrived). Overall, I thought the place was overpriced.

I did, however, see phosphorescent plankton during my stay, which was spectacular.
