My new husband I stayed here for four nights on our honeymoon. We were a little apprehensive after reading some negative reviews but we had a wonderful experience.
We opted for the all-inclusive deal, which includes 3 meals and 1 excursion every day, tourist tax, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and use of snorkel equipment and kayaks. It was great to forget about money while we were there and it seemed to be a good deal. We went snorkeling and visited Dolphin Bay and Caya Zapatillas--all of which were just lovely! The day trips are somewhat dependent on the weather, which can be a bit rainy. We were able to go out every day but would have been totally content watching the rain over the ocean from our bungalow.
The meals were great. Fresh fruit, cereal, bread, eggs, and coffee for breakfast, a different lunch every day (followed by more coffee), and a gourmet 3-course meal for dinner. Martin, who lives on the island and manages Al Natural, makes sure that the food accommodates different tastes and allergies.
The setting was unreal--we saw phosphorescent plankton every night, a manta ray, beautiful birds and butterflies, and tiny lizards. The water is shallow and crystal clear, and there is no civilization in site. It was easy to unplug and relax.
We read on the website that guests need to bring beach towels and a flashlight--very true! I would also highly recommend bringing lots of strong sunscreen, bug repellent, a camera, spare batteries, and cigarettes (if you are a smoker). There is nowhere nearby to stock up on these things.
This is definitely not a posh resort where you can get a seaside massage and check your email in air conditioning. This is a very laid-back hotel made up of bungalows without full walls. That said, we had a considerable amount of privacy and loved waking up every morning in a king-sized bed overlooking the ocean. My husband and I have only been back for a few days but were are already planning our next visit.
