“What's Not to Love About Cocomo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2011

I needed a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the US and thought that Bocas was just what the doctor ordered. In researching hotels, all signs pointed to Cocomo and I can honestly say that the signs do not lie. This is not a 5 star luxury resort with marble bathrooms and 3 TV's to a room. So if that's what you are looking for, go somewhere else. But, if you are looking for a completely charming host, an amazing staff, the best location in Bocos Town and a very tranquilo vibe, then definitely give Cocomo a shot. I stated here for 4 nights in early May and the experience has left me wanted to open up a hotel just like Doug's in Bocas. Everything about the place is adicting and even a couple days of rain didn't spoil my time. I arrived on the early morning flight from Panama City, and the staff was, no hay problema, we've got a room cleaned and ready before check in time. Also, have some breakfast too. Doug invited all the guests over to his place (next door) for chili one night with lots of other expat locals which was a lot of fun. Internet was spotty at the hotel, but Doug did his best to make it right. Walk down the street towards town and stop off at the Rip Tide for some coctails on their floating "bar". The water in front of the hotel wasn't that dirty and I did go for a quick dip off the end of the pier on a particulary hot day. The family that lives next door can get a bit noisy (especially their dog), but they were also fun to watch and talk to. The rooms are perfectly comfotable including the beds, and hot water was never an issue. Check out Cocomo on your next trip, I promise that you will not be disapointed.

Room Tip: Get one of the back rooms. Quieter, better.

“4 lovely days in Bocas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

Our family (mom, dad and 2 teenage girls) really liked Cocomo. We booked 2 of the 4 rooms so we took up half the space and we thoroughly enjoyed the other guests and finding out what they had done and where they had been. One of the best benefits of a B and B!

Breakfasts were healthy and large: fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal and milk, omelettes, scrambled eggs, toast, lots of coffee, juice, tea and locally made Bocas hot sauce.

Rooms were very clean and had excellent air conditioning. The water pressure in the showers was the best we found in Panama. Decor was cottage like and funky ... very comfortable, laid back and relaxing. There were two hammocks on one of the decks and a number of plastic adirondacks on the other. Fairly close to downtown but far enough away to be quiet. 50 cents a person for a taxi into town or you could walk it in about 10 minutes.

Excellent surfing school across the street where you can book lessons. Water taxis pick you up and drop you off at your deck, no walking to a pier! Just a phone call away.

Communal fridge for your beverages and honour system for sodas and water.

Friendly and helpful staff. Douglas the owner knows the good restaurants and places to enjoy an afternoon beverage.

All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have stayed longer than the 4 days but they were booked so we had to move on.

“No Room for Improvement”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2011

Cocomo is just perfect. I couldn't think of ways to improve it even if I thought long and hard. If it's in your price range (and it's certainly not expensive), book it now. You won't be sorry.

What makes it great? The obvious things are that the decor is fun (but without being silly), the included breakfast is delicious, and the deck and dock are right on the water. You can sit in the hammocks at the end of the day, feel the cool breeze, and watch the light show on the bay as the sun slides over the horizon. They also have free kayaks if you feel like venturing out on the bay. Cocomo is also close enough to the center of town to make everything easy walking distance, but far enough away to be quiet and serene.

But what really makes Cocomo great is its size. It has only four rooms, so it never feels crowded or mass market. As Bocas has boomed, this is an increasingly rare quality, and it's hard to express how much it improves your stay. It's relaxed, uncrowded, and it almost feels like your own place (but with the advantage that someone serves you a delicious breakfast on the water every morning!).

The best thing about Cocomo, however, is that it still feels like the old Bocas, the pre-boom Bocas. It isn't the only hotel in the area that let's you get in touch with the spirit of the area, but it's a very good choice.

“Great deal...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

Giving this a 5 b/c of the price I paid...this is a nice little B&B..nothing fancy but everything you need. Perfect distance to town with still plenty of things right close by. Rooms are simple with some cute decorations and not too small...warm shower! Friendly staff...I showed up after they were gone for the day and they left a note on the door just telling me where to go...easy!!! NIce little patio on the water w/ some great hammocks..kayaks to use though I didn't use them.

Breakfast is good (and nice place to meet people)...fruits, breads and cereals and you can order eggs, omelettes, french toast. Both days I didn't need to eat lunch as I was so full from breakfast.

For $4 they will do your laundry and whatever detergent they use - it smelled great!!

Would definitely recommend this if you are looking for something outside of noisy time and don't need anything too fancy.

“Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Our "date of stay" was actually back in the fall 2008. Everything was great about our stay, but what really blew my (now) fiancee and I away was the effort the owner took to ensure we had a great time. For example, we couldn't find a snorkelling excursion that worked for our group of four, so he personally arranged a short trip for our friends and took my fiancee and I out for the day on his own boat to some of his favourite spots. We've travelled a lot since then all over the world, and this was probably the best B&B we've ever stayed at.
