We stayed at this hotel for 1 night after arriving from Sigiriya and after exploring Polonnaruwa. It was not our first choice but all the other hotels we wanted to stay in Sigiriya and Dambulla were already fully booked as our trip was a rather rushed one and we had not made any bookings before we arrived at Sri Lanka. The location and hotel were suggested by our driver and we must say that we are quite happy with it.
Our double room was spacious and it has a balcony facing a man-made lake surrounded by a beautifully tendered garden. The furniture in the room was a bit dated but the most important thing for us was to have a clean room and bathroom with hot water, and we got all that. We find the staffs to be courteous and polite – we have no complaints about their attitude towards us.
We did not have dinner at the hotel but went to a local restaurant in town called New Araliya Sinhala Hotel (our driver later informed us that in Sri Lanka, “hotel” actually means food centre), which was recommended by Lonely Planet and we tried the local kotthu rotti and appam, which were delicious!
We find the breakfast at the hotel to be sufficient and at the time we were staying there, security was very tight and we were later informed that it was because some Government Ministers were also staying there at the same time. Perhaps this fact alone does go to show that this hotel must be one of the best in town!
We certainly have no complaints about it and will not hesitate in recommending the place to others who need a rest after a tiring day exploring the ancient sites.
