“A mixed bag.”

This guest house could be very good but falls short through lack of care. My party of 4 had the 2 rooms on the top floor. This gave stunning views across the lake and included nice indoor and outdoor seating areas. However the rooms were very basic and the toilet / shower areas minimal. The mattress on the double bed was short of the bed length – something “cured” by stuffing some extra foam between the bed and the end of the mattress. But the bed sheet didn't extend to cover this! Mosquito nets smelled very stale and one was in poor condition. Food was middling. I felt that the price of both accomodation and food was high for the quality of what we got.

Room Tip: Only rooms on the top floors really have the view but they are priced accordingly.

“Alright place but zero on hospitality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This is the only place in SL were I stayed and thought that the Sri Lankan hospitality was lacking. For being a guesthouse, their outlook is more of a resort/hotel. I had planned to stay in Kandy for 3 nights but cut short my trip due to the experience in this place.

They have few really budget rooms which are alright if you want to crash for just a night. But the more expensive ones are on the upper levels. They are furnished well but with cheap furniture. The view from the upper levels can be pretty provided you get the right room. There is an option to get a room for less if you opt for cold water shower. The rooms are clean and well lit.

The service from the guys who help maintain the place is great. The owner can really be pushy as she tries to get you tuk-tuks or taxis for day trips from Kandy at an exorbitant price. I had to firmly refuse before she got the message.

The guesthouse is well located near the lake and is a 15 min walk to the Tooth Relic temple. At evenings, since the streets are not well lit, a torch may be necessary if you do plan to go on walks around. The bus and train station are also a 10 -15 min walk from the guest house. There are tuk-tuks available at most points at the junction of the Saranankara Road and the lake.

All in all, my experience in Kandy was marred by my stay in Expediator Inn. Definitely look around before making your choice since there are many guesthouses on this road.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper level have a better view and are newly done! (Also more expensive)

we stayed in expeditor for 4 nights and used it as a base to explore the cultural triangle.the room and patio on the top floor provides you with an incredible view of the lake and the buddhist temple.they are happy to serve your breakfast and dinner on your patio and the food was excellent.the guest house is very clean and the staff is warm, friendly and give good service.the guest house is perched up on the hill and within easy walking distance to the town and temple-tuk tuk's are also readily available.we really enjoyed the people and our stay.

Room Tip: rooms on top floor provide great view of lake and temple.

“Better than average but not as advertised”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

After taking a train from Colombo we stayed in Expeditor for two nights. We had the top floor all to ourselves likely because it was the beginning of the season. The GH is located on the side of a mountain with a nice view and the walk to the lake is managable during the daylight hours. It is close enought to the Tooth Relic Temple, museum, cultural center and business area. Kanthi the owner was a bit of a complainer about rising costs which was reflected in the higher than expected cost of the room. Meals here are expensive as they are in ALL Sri Lankan homestays or guest houses and the menu is limited. She will add on a 10% service fee. I am not sure what the fee was for other than to add a cost to our bill rather than adjusting the rates. However, this is the case all over Sri Lanka. The price is not the price. Be wary. Nice place though and very very clean. They do arrange trips and treks but I did not use them.

“Okay stay in Kandy - Getting ready for the Triangle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

We stayed here for one night after a train ride from Colombo to Kandy - basically to get sorted for our trip through the 'Cultural Triangle'. Looking back we should probably have relied on the host's recommendation on their experienced guides for this area.
Our room in this slightly remote hillside guest house was okay with a nice view on Kandy. The bedsheets felt a little damp which you can hardly avoid in the colder areas of the hill country. There was a slight smell coming out of the bathroom (BEFORE we used it) - not too pleasant but since, to us mosquito coils have more than one purpose.
All in all good value for money with good home cooked dinner and Sri Lankan breakfast upon request the day before.
