Though I dreamt this would be hidden away in the Sri Lankan jungle, my disappointment in its setting, along and above a rather polluted little stream, did not last very long. The people who operate this place are among the finest and most caring I have met in my travels. Mr. Malik is a business man and does promote his own travel service relentlessly, but his information is dependable and he is helpful to the end. The people he has hired (and I apologize for not knowing their names--I am left with the name of one very friendly and helpful young man, Nazeem) are at your service promptly and politely throughout your stay. The rooms and the facility are not luxury, but neither is the room rate. For very little money we had comfortable beds, hot and cold water in the baths, adequate mosquito netting, and clean rooms. In addition to that we were welcomed on top of the facility at a rooftop restaurant that featured traditional Sri Lankan fare along with other foods. Joining us in the restaurant would be Mr. Malik with good conversation and suggestions as to places to visit and how to get there. He did have ihis own service to offer, but offered good help even when his service was not your choice. We were able to communicate with our son in Texas and Kuwait as we attempted to get him to join us, via the internet, provided for a small fee. We were a
Rs 100 tuk-tuk fare from downtown Kandy. Everything we agreed to regarding our stay over a conversation on Skype, as our online booking failed, was delivered with a smile. The warmth of the staff is the best the Palm Garden's has going for it. We're glad we had the experience.
