“Good location, Good rates, Great food, and Fine, Friendly people.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

Though I dreamt this would be hidden away in the Sri Lankan jungle, my disappointment in its setting, along and above a rather polluted little stream, did not last very long. The people who operate this place are among the finest and most caring I have met in my travels. Mr. Malik is a business man and does promote his own travel service relentlessly, but his information is dependable and he is helpful to the end. The people he has hired (and I apologize for not knowing their names--I am left with the name of one very friendly and helpful young man, Nazeem) are at your service promptly and politely throughout your stay. The rooms and the facility are not luxury, but neither is the room rate. For very little money we had comfortable beds, hot and cold water in the baths, adequate mosquito netting, and clean rooms. In addition to that we were welcomed on top of the facility at a rooftop restaurant that featured traditional Sri Lankan fare along with other foods. Joining us in the restaurant would be Mr. Malik with good conversation and suggestions as to places to visit and how to get there. He did have ihis own service to offer, but offered good help even when his service was not your choice. We were able to communicate with our son in Texas and Kuwait as we attempted to get him to join us, via the internet, provided for a small fee. We were a
Rs 100 tuk-tuk fare from downtown Kandy. Everything we agreed to regarding our stay over a conversation on Skype, as our online booking failed, was delivered with a smile. The warmth of the staff is the best the Palm Garden's has going for it. We're glad we had the experience.

but was good for a one-night stopover.
Pro: clean rooms, good bathroom (though hot water takes an age to start). Nice b'fast on the rooftop restaurant, but this just like the other meals was overpriced for a guesthouse. Good bus connectivity to and from centre. Good mozzie protection with working neys
Con: dirty garden and surroundings, with the nastily smelling stream visible from most balconies. Noisy road near. Generally too far from the centre and lake (3 km), in Kandy one should really have something of natural beauty to view and this place is too much into the residential part of town.

“very friendly and helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2009

The owner of the guest house helped us organizing the trips and other accomodation which was beyond his duties. We really appreciated his help.
The place is very friendly to newcomers and the rooms are cleaner than in other places, which is relaxing.

“A Place to Rest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2009

The people working in this house are very friendly and helpful all the time. The room was clean and the restaurant on top of building was a place to meet people at any daytime. The way to the centre is not to far to walk and even to arrange a tuk tuk or a taxi they offered help. Tipps and advises for the journey were very helpful. Thank you there and see you next time at Palm Garden.

“Very friendly and great food”

Stayed here for three nights. Malik and his staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and will do anything to help. Kandy is a cooler than other places in Sri Lanka and our room was a bit on the damp side, but we got some extra blankets and it was fine. There was a mosquito net in the room, which saved us the bother of using ours...

We enjoyed Sri Lankan breakfast every morning. The terrace has a nice view and it was cool to watch the bats flying around at dusk. We also ate dinner there every evening. The first evening the dinner didn't have enough spice for our taste, but we told Fatima we really DID like spicy food and then it was fantastic the other two nights. Had a great variety of vegetable curries. Very nice!
