Yes, the people here are definitely very friendly. The question is how sincere that friendliness is. An earlier reviewer spoke of upselling and we're gonna have to agree with them. The people are very friendly, almost too friendly and when they've reeled you in, they try to sell you all kinds of things such as day trips, tickets to dance shows, taxi services etc. etc. We didn't like it and we certainly didn't like the way it was done. We felt uneasy and pressured. The food is by all means wonderful, but if we ever do spend another few days in Kandy, we will eat here but stay some place else.

To arrive at this friendly guesthouse, when you are tired and dirty, is a very nice experience. The owner and all the staff will help you feeling at home; their good advices, their knowledge of the town, even the two small tuk tuks will bring you anywhere you ask for, and always with a smile on the lips of the driver. We had two good rooms, for a moderate price, spotless clean, nice big towels, good beds and a god atmosphere. On the rooftop terrace you will find the restaurant. The meals are very good, the fruit juice, the rice and curry and...you name it, are all fresh, homemade and tasty.

I found my stay at the palm garden really enjoyable. The staff were very helpful. The food was really nice. We had the sri lankan curry, very nice. The rooms were clean ie clean bed sheets and bathroom which is what you want.
The guesthouse is about a 20 minute walk into Kandy town.
I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at Palm Garden again, cause we love the place. The rooms are spotless clean, nice beds, good prices, recently refurnished the rooms. The owner Malik and his French wife are very helpful and will make sure your stay at the this guesthouse will be a pleasant one. They can also arrange trips all over the country. Food is great, served on the rooftop restaurant, while you are enjoying the view. So excellent place for reasonable price.
