When we arrived to the place, they showed us one room which was decent looking (probably their best room on offer). So we said we'll take 5 rooms for the 10 of us. We put our belongings down and went for dinner right away. After dinner everybody came back home and had a better look at the rooms. Too hot in room, bugs in room, a rat passed by in of the rooms, floor and toilet dirty, toilet did not flush everything down (even after several tries). It was so dirty that I didn't even take a shower in the morning. 2 rooms left after 30 minutes to another place. The guy who served us breakfast and who took our money spoke 3 words in English. Very difficult to communicate. The only bright side to all of this was the morning view from the room which was very nice. That is the only reason this place got a "poor" rating. Believe me, worth looking for a better place!!

A con man.. All lies.. The room was disgusting .. We left asap in the morning.. Good riddance to him!!

The most people if not all met Rodney in Colombo at the train station waiting for the train to Kandy. He approached us with a offer – his guesthouse. He showed us pictures and so we decided to give him a chance. In Kandy a car with a driver was waiting for us and took us to Rodney´s place. It was a little bit far from the city centre but the place was really nice and for a great price. We got a nice room with a wonderful view. The staff there was great and the food as well. At the evening Rodney joined us after a dinner and he introduced us his tour plan for the inland trip. We already had our itinerary planned very carefully before. But now I can say honestly say that thanks to Rodney we could see much more of Sri Lanka that we planned. His first offer seemed to us really expensive so we decided to exclude few two destinations and we got the price we finally agreed on. Rodney was a little bit pushy but we knew that he had to accept our decision if he likes it or not because we pay the money. Rodney made the final itinerary for 8 days with a car and driver. Our driver was the best. He showed us hidden places and explained everything we wanted to know. When we wanted to see something except our plan we stopped there. During the trip the car got broken, Rodney immediately called us and offered us solution without any additional money. At the end of our trip our driver took us to the beach directly to our booked guesthouse. So thanks to Rodney we had a great holiday, we saw many wonderful things and places even a leopard in Horton´s plains. It is great when you meet in a foreign country a person who keeps his word and follows the rules.

Felt compelled to write this review after experiencing and witnessing Rodney first hand. We didnt do our homework on Rodney and only wish we had. Do the search, read the forums. Rodneys a scammer from way back out to take, cheat and worm his way into your wallet whilst delivering as little as possible. Basically there is no transparency with Rodney and at every turn a new cost suddenly appears. He promotes himself as a tour guide but is not. He is a driver who does his utmost to take you away from what you want to do and to where he will get commission, or a free meal. What was discussed the day before is not the case when you hit the road, and either is the price. Whilst at it, either was the transport. The van we got had no seat belts, nothing on the dash worked, water came up through the floor, drivers side window didnt work and the passenger seat was not secured. Oh and Rodney drives like a man with, well, a drinking problem. Come 2pm he starts talking about needing alcohol and then drives accordingly. Anyway, after speaking to the other guest who were mixed up with Rodney and reading some of the forums and review, it sounds like we should maybe count ourselves as lucky. Sri Lanka is beautiful country with so much to offer, its just a shame people like Rodney can sour it. As mentioned, do your homework on were you want to go and prices and beware Rodney.
