“Superb location and very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Very good hotel with majestic, green grounds. The bungalow was comfortable and had good facilities. The range and quality of food was excellent. The staff were very attentive and helpful. For instance, we asked for an adaptor for our phone at reception and it was in the room before we had even returned. I have not marked excellent because there were a few niggles: the shower door leaked water over the bathroom; the settee in the room was very uncomfortable. However, overall I would say a very good place and well worth a stay.

Room Tip: Stay in a bungalow

“An Oasis in a Serene Environment”

This is our third visit to this place and spent one beautiful night on Jan 29th on a FB basis.
This 4 star hotel is a real bliss close to the Kandalama Tank. I personally felt like sleeping near the Tank after having a very sumptuous breakfast buffet considering the wildlife there (mainly several aquatic birds such as Yellow-Wattled Lapwings, Great Egrets, Asian Openbills and the beautiful White-bellied sea Eagle) and the cool breeze that came from the unspoilt Tank.
The pool is very clean and big, often patronized by Great Egrets
The chalets are relatively big and spacious (relatively like a suite) and elegant with a chic bathroom. The chalets and the bathroom are very clean and the sit out (verandah) is an ideal place to have the bed tea (while looking at the birds visiting the surrounding lush greeneries) and of course to have a drink in the evening.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff and they were very courteous and friendly, obliging (special thanks to Srijith Gooneratne – GM and Suranimala Senaratne who ensured our stay was memorable & enjoyable)
The breakfast, lunch and dinner had sumptuous buffets with a lot of variety and quality, but no repetition.
But very unfortunately, after lunch on the 30th of Jan we left as all the chalets are heavily booked (actually overbooked). We were given lovely souvenirs.
We could not find any fault with this hotel (we were surprised with the previous negative comments made by some reviewers).
All in all, we love this place and will not hesitate to return.

“Needs a good clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

First impression of the bungalows was good,

but after that we began to discover flaws: entrance to the bungalow was dirty; the bathroom was not so clean and it had a bad smell from the drains; the pool was after the morning cleaning full of foam and small flies.

Of course the hotel had some good points:
comfortable beds, good buffet breakfast with international and Sri Lankan food; beautiful garden, nice walk to the lake.

“Mixed bag but worth dipping into”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Wonderful setting, nice gardens and lots of birdlife. Rooms are really three star although prices are higher than this - then again you are in Sri Lanka not western europe. Enormous choice at mealtimes - about twice as expensive as other places but twice as good (still only about about $20). Staff very helpful. Yes it is a package tour place with a different coachload everyday but that also has benefits.

Buddhist chanting late in the day then Muslim call to prayer followed by natural sounds at night - monkeys etc - you may need earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The 'kill no bugs policy' did result in a large cockroach walking into the room overnight but I was not bothered by mosquitos.

Room Tip: Book early
