“A real disappointment”

Unfortunately Budva as a whole did not live up to expectations. We had spent 4 nights in the beautiful Dubrovnik and drove to Budva to stay for a further 5 nights. It turned out to be a Russian version of Benidorm which is fine if that is what you are looking for but wasn't for us. The hotel itself is about a 30 minute walk from the Old Town and is surrounded by low level apartment buildings and a busy road but does manage to separate itself from the busy surroundings quite well. As a whole the hotel is well equipped and clean, especially the pool area. The room however was not as nice. It stank of smoke and smelt like it hadn't been aired since the last guests left. The carpet was filthy with all sorts of stains and the bathroom smelled of urine. The room had no information and no price for the minibar. This was a shame as the size and fittings in the room were good and it had a huge balcony. The staff were helpful, however only two of them spoke English to a conversational standard and it could be difficult to ask questions of the other staff. The reception had no real information for guests and could not provide us with a map of the area. We decided to return to Dubrovnik for the rest of our trip and didn't look back.

“Lovely hotel, friendly and helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2010

Depends what type of holiday you are looking for but I have to say that Budva itself would not have been my choice had I realised how busy it was. It is a bigger town than I envisaged, the beaches and town itself in August were extremely crowded.
The Max Prestige is something of an oasis and manages to provide a relaxing and thoroughly pleasing base. The hotel itself is clean and very well presented, giving an image of quality and style. Our room on the back of the hotel was good and the pool is lovely. The staff were absolutely wonderful. Whether able to speak English or not all the staff were always exceptionally friendly and were always wanting to help, right up to the manager who seemed to take a genuine and active interest in the welfare of all his guests. The two girls on reception spoke English well, were an absolute delight and were by far our best source of information about Montenegro and where to go. In stark contrast to the local Tourist information office (which was hopeless), the girls at the hotel had a genuine pride in their country and made a much more valid attempt to promote it.
The food in the hotel is good but limited however there are hundreds of places to eat in Budva if you are looking for variety. Finally I would recommend you hire a car from the hotel and take a look at Montenegro itself. Montenegro is really not very good at marketing itself but away from the narrow and crowded coast line there are wonderful mountains, a huge lake and many historic sights which really have to be searched for. Some of the roads are not for the fainthearted but the rewards for the adventurous are great.

“Good little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2008

We stayed in Budva at the beginning of June. The resort was getting busy, and was a perfect time to visit.

This hotel is not in the best location, on a busy road about 20 minutes walk from the old town but this walk is pleasant enough along the promenade

The hotel is smaller than watch I expected but the rooms were a good size. Make sure you get one at the back of the hotel though, because it is noisy.

The staff are great and all will go out of their way to help you. The pool is a good size and towels are provided.

All in all a very good hotel

“A very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2008

Writing a review for this hotel is a little tough because I didn't like Budva and couldn't wait to leave.

The hotel itself is beautiful - especially the common areas downstairs. But the location is on a busy street, with lots of building and remodeling going on around it. The property size is small so it butts up against other properties, houses, buildings etc. But there really isn't anywhere in Budva itself (that we knew of) that was a hotel like this on the water in a peaceful setting.

The young women at the desk were wonderful and very helpful. They gave us a room on the quieter, shady side with a deck. The best we could have hoped for under the circumstances, even though there was a kid in one of the adjacent houses that had a scream that could shatter glass.

The room was a bit small, there was no mattress cover (just a sheet that didn't quite fit the mattress kind of grosses me out), so I took one of the blankets out of the closet and made our own mattress cover. But they provided robes and slippers! Strange contrast.

They gave us an ethernet cable for the internet. And there is an elevator - but it isn't completely handicap friendly since there are still stairs to be climbed. There is a small secure parking lot as well.

If the location of this hotel were different, I'd rave more (mattress cover aside). It is a function of Budva however, not the hotel.

  • Liked — Great staff, beautiful common areas
  • Disliked — The misfortune of being in Budva
