My friend and I stayed at the Rock Inn for three nights and felt that our stay couldn't have been better. The room was so clean and comfortable, it's not luxurious, but in Sagada you don't have much choice. The availability of hot water at the Rock Inn was our drawcard, we needed hot water after being rained on a few times a day. We loved that the Inn was a little out of town and we could walk in and out if we wanted, or if we felt a little Princess-like, we would get a ride in the back of the jeepney. The food was incredible, maybe the best we found in the Philippines and the surroundings are beautiful. My friend and I would both agree, though, that the staff are the best part. Every person working there was so friendly and chatted to us and made us feel very welcome.

I stayed here for 3 days with my husband and two teenage boys. It was a lovely experience. Because the hotel is located away from the main part of town, it offered more of the natural mountain scenery and a rural setting (an orange grove). The entrance is ensconced in abundant strings of flowers descending from an elaborate trellis. The outdoor courtyard includes a well manicured garden and a large fire pit constructed of local rock. The interior reflected the beauty of the native craftsmanship and some creative uses for ordinary items such as baskets for chandeliers and chairs carved from stone. Accommodations are simple but adequate. Most rooms are spacious, equipped with bunk beds, and cubbies for clothes. Bathrooms are small but have hot water, a real luxury in the area. As for the food, it was good native food with a few local variations, such as red rice, fresh squeezed orange juice and orange marmalade. We certainly would go back. We agree with the other reviewer, the Rock Inn was the best place in town.

  • Liked — Best facilities in the area
  • Disliked — Service was slow at times. At restaurant, some menu items not available at times.

this is the best place to stay in sagada. we stayed in masferre inn on our first night but was really disappointed and creeped out. so we trekked out the next day and looked for a better place to stay, and rock inn was the winner. it's a little farther out from the town but still a nice walk to and fro. The rooms were spartan but very spotless clean and comfortable, and tasteful (style is probably the farthest thing you think about when you're in sagada, but rock inn definitely had it). And the surroundings are really beautiful. And the staff wonderful. we were stupid enough to have run out of cash, but they were kind enough to accept my check. very nice and accomodating people here. this place is a gem.

  • Liked — the whole hotel and its surroundings, it's what i pictured sagada to be

Informations about this hidden gem in Northern Luzon are only a few. This place deserves it to be mentioned.
We stayed at the Rock Inn for two nights in the dry season.
The location of the inn is in a beautiful, small valley within a citrus plantation, just some 300 meters away from the road that connects Sagada with Bontoc and some 2 km from the center of Sagada, a little inconvenient if you are non-motorized and want to tour around all the places.
The Inn consists of a large main building with check-in, restaurant, a small garden and a nice thatched terrace, were you can also sit down for meals. All guest rooms are in a second building. Gardens, buildings and rooms are in good conditions and the staff does all necessary works to preserve it.
The rooms are quite spacious with wooden walls and floors. The beds are a little bit narrow for two persons but comfortable.
Our room contained a bathroom with a shower with hot water, provided by a flow heater (plug the second outflow with an ear plug to get more water). It was a little on the small side, but clean and ok.
The guest house is keen of hearing. The wooden floors and thin walls are the reason. As we were nearly the only guests at this time, we haven't had a problem with noise from other guests.
The meals in the restaurant are cheap, tasteful and nice displayed. If you order tea, it comes in a big tea jug, enough for two. We had no need to check the other restaurants "downtown". All in all it was a very good deal and we enjoyed it very much. Espacially the tranquility.
Don't miss the spectacular outlook on the rice terraces. The spot can easily be reached on foot in half an hour from the Inn. Tour operators are downtown. We haven't used them. Our car and the Lonely Planet was sufficient for us.
AN IMPORTANT HINT: Sagada is really off the beaten path. To reach the place you need plenty of time and should preferably travel in dry season. We deciced to take the route via Banaue. The road from Manila is paved until that town and from there on the road winds around the mountains - sometimes steep - and is unpaved and in bad condition. With own car, expect 8-10 hours to Banaue on car or bus, another two hours to Bontoc (approx. 40 kms) and a half more to Sagada (with own car). As we have heard, the road to Baguio is in the same bad condition and closed for trucks, even though it is the main connecting road to civilisation. A 4WD is strongly recommended.
