“Adventurous travelling by car around spectacular Nazca, with wonderful Hotel Majoro as basis.”
My wife and I, together with thirty friends and ten 4 x 4 cars of different types, spent four unforgettable days exploring the Nazca area in Peru, about 450 kms south of Lima.
One full day travelling through the Valle San Fernando Reserve, visiting the ceremonial center Ciudadela de Cahuachi ruins, enjoying the abundance of sea fossils and shells on more than 1000 meters altitude challenging your fantasy, passing majestic and beautiful sand dunes, all in a tremendous desert until reaching Punta Los Ingleses, the southwestern point of the reserve where the Pacific Ocean waves wash rocks and cliffs taken by mating sea lions and penguins, and where condors patrol the air above. Absolutely spectacular!
Another full day car climbing one of the world´s highest sand dunes Cerro Grande, visiting among others Valle Las Trancas - Pocara and Chauchilla, their museums and necropolis from the thousand-year-old Nazca culture, Just as interesting and spectacular as the first day!
Some of us took air rides over the Nazca lines, while others appreciated them from high steel towers, something which of cours cannot be left unattended while you are there. The same goes for the Maria Reiche Museum near the city of Nazca, concentrating on these mysteries.
For these adventures, we had contracted a speicalized guide, a must for such a successful journey.
We spent leasure time, and of course our nights, in a real desert oasis, Hotel Majoro. The hotel is originally a convent from the 17th century, turned by the beginning of the 20th century into a cotton producing hacienda and run by a family of the Peruvian aristocracy until the "agrarian reform" of 1968. Nowadays it is run as a hotel and convention center, reconstructed and kept with perfection and good taste, Its beautiful gardens, swimming pools, impressive collection of ceramics and textiles from the Nazca culture combined with a nice and efficient service standard, converts the hotel into a delightful safe brake and resting place from the adventurous side trips/excursions.
So recommendable.
