“Nice hotel with pretty grounds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

The Hotel Majoro is a nice hotel situated slightly out of Nazca town - we drove into town in the evening for dinner as we were warned that service in the hotel could be slow. On arrival check in was very quick and we were showed to our room, which was average size with 2 single beds. The bathroom was clean and big enough, but a tip would be to keep the doors closed because another guest found a scorpion in their room! In the morning we had a nice walk around the grounds, our room was located in a rather neglected area with an empty dirty disused pool, but around the other side near the bar the gardens were beautiful and spotting the birds was a lovely way to pass the time.

“There are many better options in Nazca”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel on a trip to Nazca in December to fly over the lines.

What's Good :
- Nice grounds,
- Nice pool
- Peaceful environment

Why you should avoid this hotel :
- Mosquitos in the room (see picture attached to this review). I counted more than 60 mosquito bites. There is no malaria issues in Nazca, but I still had to visit pharmacies and seek medical attention.
- Expensive food and limited restaurant options. Restaurant on premises is very expensive and can be an issue if you are budget sensitive. Expect to pay around 2 to 3 times the price of a regular meal in the city of Nazca.
- It is very remote : If you want to go to the city of Nazca, you need to call a taxi, since the hotel is about 5km isolated out of town. A taxi can take up to 45 minutes before showing up. We had this problem on our check out day and we almost missed our bus back to Lima.
- It is very expensive. The rooms are not so nice and the beds are not very comfortable. Our king size bed ("deluxe"!!) room consisted of 2 double beds joined together. The shower water temperature is kinda variable.
- Review the "extras" on your invoice as you check out. Anyways, you'll have to pay because they won't let you out of premises (there's an armed security guard controlling anyone who comes it or exits the hotel, and they won't call your taxi... so you're stucked to pay even if you don't agree).

Room Tip: Don't pay the extra for a "deluxe" room. It does not worth it.

“Lovely heritage property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011 via mobile

Negative reviewers for this property need to get a grip and check their western perspectives at the door. Sometimes travellers need to suspend their preconceptions and desire for Hilton convenient blandness and just go with the flow. The hotel is situated in what was a 17th century man astern converted in the early 20th century to a grand hacienda. It maintains the sense of grandness and colonial charm from those times. Our room was a charming well sized space furnished with reproduction furnishings befitting the period of the buildings. Service at all times was superb and whilst language was something of a barrier at times, a little patience on our part yielded results every time. The restaurant was well priced and whilst a little more expensive than eateries in populated areas the presentation and quality was top drawer. The alpaca, horse and peacocks which roam the grounds lend a lovely touch as do the many birds ( my wife fell in love with the many hummingbirds) which inhabit the garden.
As other reviewers have noted the property is situated down a long dirt driveway but this only seemed long the first time... Given the huge amount of building and development going on in Nazca at the moment I fully expect the road will be sealed next time visit... And we definitely will!!!

“Beautiful grounds show neglect, rooms are rustic but still nice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

The Majoro is isolated from Nasca proper and that may not be all bad, but being in or near town would give you more options for meals and drinks. As it was, we had only the hotel restaurant available to us during our two night stay. And the Majoro has a reputation with the bus tour trade, so you had to get into the restaurant early unless you intended to make a full evening of your meal. The parking lot was full of tour buses morning and night. Having peacocks calling by surprise from your roof at night can be startling, earplugs might be worthwhile. The restaurant staff is overworked and touchy. But even with all these petty gripes, the Majoro still has character and strolling the grounds is very romantic. Just make sure to stay away from the emaciated and ancient white horse. Horse lovers would cry at seeing his condition.

Room Tip: Near the aesthetic (no swimming) pool complete with island would be my choice.

“Adventurous travelling by car around spectacular Nazca, with wonderful Hotel Majoro as basis.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My wife and I, together with thirty friends and ten 4 x 4 cars of different types, spent four unforgettable days exploring the Nazca area in Peru, about 450 kms south of Lima.

One full day travelling through the Valle San Fernando Reserve, visiting the ceremonial center Ciudadela de Cahuachi ruins, enjoying the abundance of sea fossils and shells on more than 1000 meters altitude challenging your fantasy, passing majestic and beautiful sand dunes, all in a tremendous desert until reaching Punta Los Ingleses, the southwestern point of the reserve where the Pacific Ocean waves wash rocks and cliffs taken by mating sea lions and penguins, and where condors patrol the air above. Absolutely spectacular!

Another full day car climbing one of the world´s highest sand dunes Cerro Grande, visiting among others Valle Las Trancas - Pocara and Chauchilla, their museums and necropolis from the thousand-year-old Nazca culture, Just as interesting and spectacular as the first day!

Some of us took air rides over the Nazca lines, while others appreciated them from high steel towers, something which of cours cannot be left unattended while you are there. The same goes for the Maria Reiche Museum near the city of Nazca, concentrating on these mysteries.

For these adventures, we had contracted a speicalized guide, a must for such a successful journey.

We spent leasure time, and of course our nights, in a real desert oasis, Hotel Majoro. The hotel is originally a convent from the 17th century, turned by the beginning of the 20th century into a cotton producing hacienda and run by a family of the Peruvian aristocracy until the "agrarian reform" of 1968. Nowadays it is run as a hotel and convention center, reconstructed and kept with perfection and good taste, Its beautiful gardens, swimming pools, impressive collection of ceramics and textiles from the Nazca culture combined with a nice and efficient service standard, converts the hotel into a delightful safe brake and resting place from the adventurous side trips/excursions.

So recommendable.
