We stayed at Sumaq one night before seeing Machu Picchu. Room on river has excellent view of the roaring river. We picked this hotel only because other nice hotels were already booked. After paying $450/night we didn't want to have to get two rooms for ourselves and our teenage daughters. They told us there was a two person max since our daughters were older than 12. We told them we would manage, and thankfully, they let us. To our delight, the room was huge, with plenty of room and the beds were queen size, so one night was no problem and worth it to stay in one room. Breakfast and dinner were included, although drinks at dinner were expensive. There was live music during dinner and that was a nice surprise. The spa was a disappointment, it was closed, except for getting my massage, the steam room was broken, and the massage was not worth it. I wonder if she even had any masseuse training. They did let me take a shower in there the next day after we had checked out, which was nice of them. A plus is that it is very close to the bus to Machu Picchu and they will hold a spot for you at whatever time you request, so you can sleep later. It is the only hotel that the bus stops if requested on the way to and from Machu Picchu. We got on the fourth bus up and passed the hotel at 5:45. It was nice to go to Machu Picchu early before the crowds. There isn't much of a sunrise at the top though. The hotel was clean and feels new. They give you a welcome drink when you arrive and free Pisco Sours at happy hour.
Room Tip: Get one on the river, we were on the third floor and it was quiet.
