“pretty good, convenient location”

This is a small, family-run hotel. It is squeaky clean. The folks running it are reasonably friendly, though we had trouble getting enough toilet paper, and had to ask several times. The breakfast was good, but a little limited. The location is very convenient--- then again, Aguas Calientes is so small it's hard for anything to be inconvenient. Speaking of Aguas Calientes, it's not the greatest town, as it is very touristy. Expect to see mostly other tourists, and the prices are double everywhere else in Peru. But it's the only option for getting up to Machu Picchu. If you're going to stay in Aguas Calientes, this hotel is a perfectly decent place to stay overnight, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

“Near the bus to Machu Picchu”

Nice hotel near to the busses to Machu Picchu and across the souvenir market. Clean rooms and a nice hot shower. Breakfast was not very special, but was OK. They can prepare you a lunch package which is very good, with sandwiches, boiled eggs, drinks and energy bars. If you want to visit Machu Picchu and leave Aguas Calientes the same day, you can leave your luggage in the hotel. Although they don't speak very much English, they always try to help you as good as they can. There is also free internet.

“Descent place”

We found the staff to be very nice and helpful. They greated us when we arrived late at night from the train station, oriented us, and provided a good overview of what we would need to do for the morning (when to leave, where to catch the bus, breakfast times, etc.). We were able to safely store our luggage (a backpack) with them, while we visited Machu Picchu.

The hotel itself isn't anything to write home about. The rooms are small and crowded. Everything was old and out-dated. The bathroom was very basic, had a bit of mold on the ceiling, and a few bugs. We had hot water, which was appreciated. The beds were old and not the most comfortable. I'm a heavy sleeper, so I didn't have problems with the noise. However, my wife is a light sleeper and was disturbed by the noise (the hotel is across the street from the river and a block or so from the train).

The included breakfast was pretty poor, with a few pieces of fruit, bread, meat, and slivers of egg. Nescafe and té de coca were available, too.

Like all of Aguas Calientes, La Pequena Casita is a let-down. The town is merely a dot on the map for "passing-by," and is way overpriced for what it offers (this includes the terrible food). We recommend staying in Cusco, unless, like us, you really want to be the first ones into the park for unobscured photos.

“Great Location for a Quick Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

La Pequena Casita is a great hotel for what it is worth and is very well priced for the amities it provides. Please note, this is not a high-end luxury hotel and those expecting it to be will be disappointed. If you are looking for a decent priced hotel and are just staying a few nights to visit Machu Picchu, this hotel fits the bill. Our trip only consisted of a single night, which was arranged by our hotel in Cusco. When we arrived, by train, a represented was waiting for us with a sign to escort us to the hotel. We went through the market and straight to the hotel. On our arrival there seemed to be a mix up as we requested a matrimonial suite, but instead got a triple accommodation bedroom. This was not disappointment as the triple bedroom was quite spacious.

We found there to be hot water, for showers, whenever we needed it. The room was clean and tidy. Beds were confortable and had enough blankets for the weather. However, we went during the beginning of the wet season and it happened to be very muggy, making the room feel damp.

They hotel also provide breakfast, which was limited. Consisted of coffee, tea, fruit, bread, and some eggs, but was enough for the limited time we had before getting on the bus to Machu Picchu. They also provided a lunch box to take with you to Manchu Picchu, but we declined.

The best part about the hotel was that when we had finished viewing Manchu Picchu they allowed us to come in rest in their lobby before our train left. We also were allowed to leave out bags to view the small town of Aguas Calientes, without paying a fee. This was all after we had checked out. Additionally, they exchanged USD for Peruvian Soles for a reasonable rate.

Overall, for the value it was well worth it and I would stay again.

“Good, convenient hotel though not cheap.”

We were met at the station as promised and walked the 100 metres through the handicraft market to the hotel. They happily let us change rooms to one not directly by the stairs, so that it should be quieter as we were staying 2 nights and not needing to get up very early. The three rooms we looked at were all spacious, well equipped and light, looking out onto the street. In fact there was surprisingly little noise in the mornings. The receptionist carefully explained where to get the bus and Machu Picchu entrance tickets, so that we would not have to queue in the morning; also how to get to Mandor gardens. Breakfast was the usual fare with the addition of fruit slices and the second morning we were also treated to sweet tamales.
