Great value for a big double room overlooking the (very full) lake. Ompetepe is a great place!

Food was great and good value.

We booked tours across the road with the kiosk - good value but we could have done with more Spanish for our kayaking tour and climbing Volcan Maderas trek, as our guide spoke not much English (but we managed to communicate and had great time on both trips!).

Even after the hotel rented us bikes that had no brakes and failed to change gears, we were still denied a refund for even one of the bikes. The room we were staying had a connecting bathroom to which we had to keep the door closed, because of the awful smell coming from the bathroom. When we requested to have our laundry cleaned and the staff agreed that our clothes would be dried by the time when we needed to leave. As we were packing to leave, our wet clothes were returned to us and even though they had not dried them by the agreed upon time, they still insisted upon charging us for the laundry services. It seems like the manager has a flair for screwing people at every possible turn. Even though we spent a lot of money at the restaurant and bar, she was very rude about not making up for the lacking services.

Aside from this, most of the food is excellent, yet overpriced and the location is really beautiful. The servers working the restaurant are very respectful and kind people. I think new management would make a world of difference for this place.

The location is great and if you choose a room with a fan and a view you can hear and see the Lake. The rooms are dirty, the toilet hard to flush, the food expensive and bad and the staff indifferent. We had read that it was the place to go for arranging trips ....nope did not really get that much help and the horses we booked suddenly not available. And if you ignore the advice not to stay there eat at commedore right next to the finca. Cheap good food and friendly staff.

don't bother being civil to the concierge, he will lie to you and do as little as possible. see the room before you agree to it and when its covered in bugs (dead and alive) don't hesitate to move to a different hotel or demand that they clean it. skip the a.c. cause those rooms are the nastiest. friend stayed in an un-air conditioned room overlooking water and it was much nicer. very good food however.
