“Okay hotel, lousy location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This place is just okay to stay in. We had a nice little cabana for $28. No great shakes. The problem is that this part of the island gets VERY windy. We were there mid January 2012 and the wind blew at a constant 40+ miles per hour. Also, Lake Colciboca is very high right now and there is NO BEACH AT ALL. The beach umbrellas in front of the hotel are under water about half way up the poles and the big waves crash against the wall of the hotel. We were going to stay for three nights but instead went over to Merida, on the calm side of the island.

“Hotel Finca Santo Domingo”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Small dirty rooms full of bugs, louzy service that speaks no English, bad food (bugs in my breakfast) and missing laundry. Don't think I would recommend this to my worst enemy...

Room Tip: Go a few doors down to BuenaVista or the other way to Paraiso for better hostels.

“Nice beach location and good value - rooms a little shabby, but acceptable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Stayed here at the end of rain season while climbing Volcano Concepcion. Shared a cabin that was very good value, but which had seen better days. Two nice bonuses outside: the trees were full of howler monkeys and at night there were lots of fireflies all around. Really makes you feel you are in an unusual setting. You can also walk to Ojo de Agua from here.

The beach was flooded so late in the rainy season, but still made for a very nice swim after the climb. A good deal of mosquitoes on shore, but they were mostly too bothered with the light bulbs of the house to annoy us. The food was OK, but nothing more. All in all, a decent place to hang out for a little while if you're not expecting luxury.

“Great place to relax and take in the beauty of the lake. Nice staff, good value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I arrived in Santo Domingo during the low season (October) and looked at 5 hotels before deciding on Finca-Santo Domingo. I bargained a bit and got a rate of $10 per night for a private room with a view of the lake. They only had one other room booked so that is not necessarily the price that you will pay. Even for $20 I think it is a good value as it sits right on the lake with a nice, reasonably priced restaurant and plenty of nice areas to relax. The staff were great with me and I ended up staying for 9 nights in order to relax and catch up on some studying. I really enjoyed my time there and recommend it for anyone looking to relax and take in the beauty of Ometepe.

“Really nice location on the lake with great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We had a good stay on the lake. The hotel is on the lakeshore with access to the lake which is great for swimming. We had a nice colourful clean room with ensuite (cold shower) in the garden. There were two fans in the room which was fine. Be aware there are constant power cuts in Nicaragua so bring a torch and the fans stop and start all night. It also poured with rain a couple of times while we were there. Breakfast was great and you can eat outside at the lake which was wonderful. The food was all good and the staff are really nice. Try the fish for 2 people. It was huge and delicious as were the fresh fruit juices.  After we checked out we swam and held onto our towels and were able to  use the shower facilities before it was time to catch our bus. The chicken bus stops outside the hotel gate. We had a great stay and had to leave only because we wanted catch the ferry to Granada that night. (By the way - they were really nice at Hotel Castillo in Alta Gracia. We went there to escape the rain and wait for the ferry. We lay in the hammocks, charged our phones, they made us coffee, ordered the collective taxi for us and were so hospitable. It's a basic hostel with internet cafe but seemed an ok place for a stopover before or after the ferry.) They also charge for wifi and computer use which was a shame but also meant we could really hide away and relax! Would recommend for a relaxing stay.
