“Good location, friendly, great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

The Ometepetl is right up the street from the ferry dock, best location if you get an early morning ferry to the mainland. We arrived on a rainy Sunday and decided to stay here as it was close to the ferry and a decent value at $15/night (fan and bathroom) and the rooms of decent size and clean.
The beds are good and firm, the walls seemed newly painted and had large flower patterns (a matter of personal taste). The small TV has only an over-the-air antenna, which basically meant one channel with poor picture quality.

Reading other travelers reviews of this place we figure that Ometepetl must have recently been renovated. Our room was perfectly clean! Only the bathroom could use a makeover and the shower curtain a good wash or replacement. Maybe it's worth to ask seeing a number of rooms before choosing this hotel?

The pool was completely empty and looked like it's been a long time since it was last in use. But to be fair, the pool was not mentioned or advertised to us when we looked at the hotel. Anyway at $15 a night we did not expect to have a pool.

The owner is very friendly and had a lot of advice about our onward journey to Leon. He also speaks good English but was patient enough to listen to our broken Spanish and respond in slow and easy to understand Spanish.

Food at their restaurant was outstanding. The Chuleta (pork chop) was one of the best we had in Central America.

We would certainly stay and eat at the Ometepetl again.

“Avoid this place since there are other nearby hotels that are much better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

After one night, I moved to another hotel with a much cleaner room and bathroom, with more amenities, and much nicer staff.

- Pool is scam. It was completely empty when I arrived. Other locals told me that the pool has not been filled for several years.
- Surly staff.
- Dirty rooms with broken down bathroom and nasty looking beds.
- Had to leave because I woke up with lots of bug bites.

“This could be a cute place if.....”

If only they would scrub the floors and put some effort into cleaning it properly, it would be acceptable. Before I stayed here, I read the reviews and they weren't great but I saw one or two that were satisfied. I booked 2 nights here but ended up only stayed 1 night. I was disappointed how dirty it was for that price. If they would have made the effort to clean it well, I would have stayed the 2nd night. Instead I went up a couple blocks and stayed in the hammock at the El Indio Viejo which was a great place to meet people and get good food and beer.

“Could be better, much better....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

Didn't plan on staying in Moyogalpa. Original plans were to stay out at Playa Santo Domingo, however after running into distant relatives who live near town, staying in Moyogalpa seemed to be the 'better' choice. Good points; the AC worked pretty well, and the bedding was crisp and clean. The food at the restaurant was a bargain. The help were friendly though not so helpful in terms of setting up guides and so on. Being in town meant being close to Concepcion, so getting up the volcano was convenient. Good selection of restaurants in town, as well as several internet spots, and as far as I know the only ATM on the island. Not so good points; no hot water, well you get used to this traveling about the country....but still it would have been nice, a mirror in the bathroom would have been nice, an attempt to provide something/anything so I could shave in the mornings would have been a plus. Back to the bath, just not clean, not up to expectations. No TV, and after three days had to request a room clean (I dunno I sort expected them come in and at least dump the trash). Broken window, ya know like forget about security...and handing off my valuables at the front desk was better than nothing, but I had no idea nor warm fuzzy feeling that my valuables were truly secure.

“The best thing about Hotel Ometepeti is checking out”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

Don't stay there our room was shabby, the walls were mouldy and you could smell the mould, the wash basin was filthy black, the toilet pan had not been cleaned for weeks, there were also bare live wires in the shower area. Food was pretty good though and the waiting staff were great
