The Ometepetl is right up the street from the ferry dock, best location if you get an early morning ferry to the mainland. We arrived on a rainy Sunday and decided to stay here as it was close to the ferry and a decent value at $15/night (fan and bathroom) and the rooms of decent size and clean.
The beds are good and firm, the walls seemed newly painted and had large flower patterns (a matter of personal taste). The small TV has only an over-the-air antenna, which basically meant one channel with poor picture quality.
Reading other travelers reviews of this place we figure that Ometepetl must have recently been renovated. Our room was perfectly clean! Only the bathroom could use a makeover and the shower curtain a good wash or replacement. Maybe it's worth to ask seeing a number of rooms before choosing this hotel?
The pool was completely empty and looked like it's been a long time since it was last in use. But to be fair, the pool was not mentioned or advertised to us when we looked at the hotel. Anyway at $15 a night we did not expect to have a pool.
The owner is very friendly and had a lot of advice about our onward journey to Leon. He also speaks good English but was patient enough to listen to our broken Spanish and respond in slow and easy to understand Spanish.
Food at their restaurant was outstanding. The Chuleta (pork chop) was one of the best we had in Central America.
We would certainly stay and eat at the Ometepetl again.
